Airport Express - Can't Configure Using OSX Mavericks

I have an older (A1088) airport express and run OSX Mavericks on my iMac. I see from the online help that if I want to configure the airport express I should download Airport Utility 5.6 but when I try to do this on Mavericks I am advised by the OS that 5.6 is not supported by the OS. What can I do?

null-OTHER, OS X Mavericks (10.9.4), A1088

Support for the original AEBS or any other 802.11b/g - only AirPort Base Station is gone in Mavericks. The last of those models was discontinued over six years ago. You will need a commensurately old version of OS X to configure it.

You may find links to dubious websites containing instructions for hacking OS X to make it work. Doing that will cause unanticipated future problems, and this site never permits discussion of violating OS X's licensing agreements.
