Unfortunately, the Apple forums seem to have taken a dislike to embedded photos over the last 2-3 weeks and your image does not appear, at least on my computer and not on probably many others. Please describe in words, or post your image on a hosting site and provide the link.

Also, this forum covers all families of tower-style PowerMacs made from 1998-2005 so you will get faster help if you tell us which PowerMac variant you have and what version of the Mac OS it is running.

Crazy how that works, I see it though...

What are the IPs of the Mac Pro, G5 Tower, & IP of the Printer?

Yes, I can see the image, but Allan is correct, it is hit and miss.

What kind a router/switch do you have? Some Netgear devices have VLANs and client isolation, so outbound traffic will work, but internal traffic is segmented.

What do ping and trace route from the machines that cannot see each other report?

    Allan --

Pretty distressing as I can see the image here, with most of the details you ask. Including a schematic of my network. Plus Apple knows my equipment and OS histories, but I don't see that referenced -- getting a little bummed out on Apple and their disregard for users that actually use their stuff for productive work product -- as opposed to play and chit chat.

Hosting site? What might you recommend? I'm an e-mail guy. You seem to be a top rated consultant and I want to do whatever it takes to get you the information you need.

    BD --

Everything seems to be dynamically allocated to work around the Internet interface. I believe the router handles all this. Something different in the 192.168.1.1XX range. On everything. My ISP requires dynamic allocation (unless I cross their palms with $$$).  I hate dynamic allocation.  But it all worked fine until I did a little nominal required maintenance on the printer (requested by the printer).

    Thanks for your interest.

    Loner --

Yes. I can ping everything from the Intel Mac. But not connect via the printer dialog or between the computers using file sharing.

Trace route? Dunno if I have that tool. I'll go see if I can do that now. Or get a utility that can.

    Thanks,

    Bob.

Oh. Router and Cable Modem are LinkSys

In OSX terminal traceroute is a built-in command.

Does the network behave better if you disconnect the printer as a test? Is there a printer LCD on which you can check it's IP. By Default, there should be only one DHCP server in your network, which is the 4-port router/switch on the Lan side.

    Loner --

Trying to keep up with you. Disconnecting printer ethernet cable no affect on computer to computer LAN connectivity, or anything else. Also, I swapped the Computer ports at the router expecting the Intel to now see the printer and the PPC not -- no affect. So it's not a particular physical router port issue. But maybe something internal to the Router. And I have reset the router to factory defaults (normal mode for me) using the Internet based tool from both computers AND the reset button on the back -- no change.

Also, I'll go bone up on how to "trace route" using the Terminal.  (Just got back into the Terminal yesterday to quash a suspicious and unlinked alias file in the PPC network selection dialog that couldn't be deleted normally).  But this will take some homework on my part.

    Thanks again.

Does the Linksys have a way to see entries for all devices connected and show their respective IPs? It would be very helpful to have specifics of the LInkSys router/gateway.

    Loner --

Also, I don't believe the printer is set up as a server. But it does have extensive communication configuration options (including being monitored by Xerox over the Internet!). But I believe I have everything problematic turned off, with the basics also set to default as before. But good point -- need to check that again.  The printer activity started all this. And good detectives don't believe in coincidences.

    Loner and All --

I don't believe the Router setup tool is that sophisticated from a diagnostic standpoint. But I'll look at it again. BTW, the Router address is 192.168.1.1, which I believe is standard for a "gateway" device.

Anyone any recommendations for an industrial strength router? I want to stay hardwired.

Special thanks to everyone here. You've all given me lots of stuff to look into. I'll report back in a day or two. Or sooner if I solve it (or it solves itself -- I always like that method and I don't ask questions). And give you all lots of points --  try not to forget that.

    Later,

    Bob
