Using iPad mini nano sim in iphone 6

I Currently have an iPad mini with the unlimited AT&T data plan that I'm grandfathered in for. The screen recently cracked, and I was thinking of getting the iphone 6 plus without a contract or SIM card....and then putting my iPad mini nano SIM card into the iphone 6 plus....and using it like I do my iPad mini....for data only.

will this be possible? will it recognize the iphone 6 as an iPad mini? I don't want to use the iphone 6 as a phone. Just want to use it as an iPad mini replacement.

Not likely. You'll have to initially activate the iPhone 6 as a phone in order to use it at all, which will require a SIM card for cell phones - one associated with phone number. iPad SIM cards are for data only.

I Believe you can use the iphone without signing up to a carrier. I know so one who bought an unlocked iphone without a SIM card to use it as a travel camera.
