Q: Touch ID is the biggest joke ever

I bought a brand new iPhone 5S-space gray.

I love the actual phone besides the finger prints. Has excellent performance and can get a lot done. But I know my thumb isn't the problem for this Touch ID issue.

Please help me. I scan my thumb and I finally get it to setup after the... eh? 5th failed scan, as usual. I'm use to it considering I have to rescan daily. Ok, so I got it working. I lock my screen and test it but ****! It doesn't ******* work! So then I rescan and after more failed scans, it works. I get the phone use to my print by keeping it on the home button, not moving it at all, and locking my phone and unlocking, and Touch ID works about 3 times with me not even moving my finger off the sensor or around it. I lock it once more and it comes with me with that intimidating phrase- try again.

Fix this issue. I've had it for months and I have no warranty. I can't take it to the Genius Bar of world records. How do I fix touch id?

And please excuse my language, I'm really fed up. Please don't try to argue with me, just help me fix my Touch ID.

It does, but I don't have to use it very often because I don't have a passcode lock on my Lock Screen. So, just needed for the occasional update.

Why is it that you do not have any warranty left? Is the device more than a year old? Even with a device more than a year old, you can bring it to the Genius Bar to have it evaluated and they can tell you if there is a hardware issue. I've not had an issues with my Touch ID, but there are a number of things that can go wrong with it. Generally, it revolves around issues with a person's fingerprint, moisture, grease, or lotion on a finger, or errors in the recording of the fingerprint. Lmao, you think I haven't seem that article a million times? I have no moisture also, as I said I scan multiple times within seconds to check if it works, and I don't think my hand gets full of sweat and moisture after 2 back to back scans that it fails!

What do you mean you never got a warranty. The iPhone is sold with a one year limited warranty. I suspect there is something else you are not revealing here.

The iPhone comes with a warranty from Apple, not from AT&T. You can go to this link https://selfsolve.apple.com/agreementWarrantyDynamic.do and enter your serial number to see if your warranty is still valid, but it should be for 12 months from your purchase. Also, have you tried scanning any other finger besides your thumb? You do not indicate that.

As was clearly stated - ALL iPhones come with a 1-year limited warranty: http://store.apple.com/us/buy-iphone/iphone5s (see the part under "Warranty"....)

A warranty is not something someone hands you at point of sale. It's a promise made by the manufacturer to fix any defects within a certain period after the original sale. As of this writing, all iPhone 5S phones are still under warranty as it didn't go on sale until 20 September 2013. Unless you have damaged it somehow, you have at least 4 days of warranty left, probably longer if you only purchased it recently.

When did you buy it? If you bought it new in February of 2014, your warranty would be good until then. Since you have now determined your phone is under warranty, you can make an appointment at the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store.

Because you probably got it in February of 2014. Meg said you had at least 4 days left....Since we have all indicated that the warranty is for 1 year, that would imply that you purchased your phone in February of 2014....
