Q: how do I wipe my computer clean before selling it without the startup disc?

Help! I'm trying to wipe my macbook clean before selling it, but every article I found says I need the original disc that came with the computer and I don't have it. I tried holding down command+r and restarting and also tried holding down option when restarting. Neither worked!

MacBook (13-inch), Mac OS X (10.6.8)

1. Click here, phone AppleCare, and order a replacement; if it originally shipped with Mac OS X 10.6.2 or earlier, you can buy a Mac OS X 10.6 DVD from the online Apple Store instead.
2. There is no recovery partition on 10.6.8 or earlier.

If you don't want to waste your time and keep your data safe, I suggest using data eraser software to wipe your computer clean before selling.
You can search it on google.
