Q: Options for using FCP 7 and FCP X

I recently upgraded from Final Cut Pro 7 to Final Cut Pro X and also changed my OS to Mavericks.  It appears if I try to open any FCP 7 files the FCP 7 program crashes after start-up.  Although FCP X is working fine, I was wondering if I could create a separate user on my iMac and load a previous OS that supports FCP 7 as I had in the past?  I know I can use some software like 7 to X to convert some of the FCP 7 files but occasionally I would just like to edit older projects on FCP 7.  Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.

I am currently using an iMac 27 (Late 2013), Processor  3.5 GHz Intel Core i7,  8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3, Graphics  NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M 4096 MB, Software  OS X 10.9.4

iMac, OS X Mavericks (10.9.4)

Just tried a different user and I had the same result in FCP7.  I am starting to see a pattern in FCP7 and the crashes seems to happen if I click on an un-rendered .motn file.  I put together a sample project in FCP7 with some imported video files as well as captured some new video clips with the Log and Transfer option.  It was actually working ok until I imported another motion file and then it crashed.  Could it be a problem more with Motion 4?

I have been upgrading since FCP3 and am running FCP7.  I have FCPX on my new MacPro2013.

I want to install FCP7 on the new MacPro2013, but need to do it from a FCP7 Original, not an upgrade.

How do I go about getting a FCP7 Full Version?

Tough one. The product has not been available from Apple for more than three years. If you can find one, they're all on the gray and used markets

You can search ebay and other used Mac software resellers. Expect to pay an obscene amount.

It's also currently available new here.

Bear in mind, Apple no longer supports any of these old applications and it's just a matter of time before some update breaks FCP 7. For example, 10.10 broke Motion 4.

Russ, so what you are saying is that I may get FCP7 to run on Maverick on my new MacPro2013, but updating the OS software may leave FCP7 behind.

Yes, Apple is like that, aren't they.  And I do want DVD Studio Pro on my new machine so I can author DVDs.

Perhaps they will come out with it soon.

I am thinking when the new Apple Watch comes out, it will only have an hour hand on it.  When people complain, they will say the second hand is in the works and will be on an Upgrade.

Currently the only FCS app that doesn't with Yosemite that I know of is Motion. Certainly FCP and DVDSP work. These applications are from mid-2009 they  are going to die eventually.
