Q: Can anyone recommend a good new alternative to iweb?

Ive used iweb for many years to build my personal site, and upload my site via filezilla to my existing host.

Im looking to upgrade to a new site builder, that would ideally work in a similar way, of being able to publish to my desktop, and upload via filezilla.  Can anyone recommend a good new alternative? Thanks

Search the iWeb forum for "iWeb alternative" and "iWeb replacement" to get a list of topics where these items have been discussed at length.

EverWeb is a popular one as it is very much like iWeb in its user interface.  There's a 30 day demo version available.  If you know HTML coding Flux might be a good candidate.  However, it's learning curve is steeper than EverWebs.  It too has a demo version as do most of the app discussed in the forums.

I can very highly recommend EverWeb as an alternative to iWeb. EverWeb looks and feels like iWeb so you will be comfortable with it.

my main concern is that I don't have to be on-line to 'compose' my web pages - is everweb the same as iWeb in that regard?

I travel a fair amount and the connections can be random and expensive

    look forward to your input

Yes, EverWeb is the same as iWeb in that regard. You do not need to be online to use it, only to publish.

You can try EverWeb for as long as needed and you only need to purchase to publish your website. Give it a try, if you're used to iWeb, you'll like EverWeb.

You may also want to check out Sandvox.  I was an iWeb user, so when that was no longer supported I also shopped around for a replacement.  I have found Sandvox to be easy to use and a very similar user interface as iWeb.

As well as EverWeb and Sandvox, you could also check out RapidWeaver, Freeway Pro/Express 7, WebAcappella 4 and if you have knowledge of html and css and want an application that is capable of importing html sites, then take a look at Flux 5.  There is also something called Macaw that is new out, but not sure what it is like.  Think this is aimed more at designers and might be more like photoshop than a web design application, but take a look anyway.
