Drag it to a volume formatted as Mac OS Extended; this can either be an external drive or the MacBook Pro's internal one(through Target Disk mode or File Sharing).

Your pictures are located in the /Home/Pictures/iPhoto Library/ folder. You can simply drag it to another disk or to the MBP if it has a Firewire port by using Target Disk Mode.

Give us some details about what your have and what you want to do

there is a Giant difference between transferring your pictures between machines and transferring your iPhoto library

What version of iPhoto do you have on the old computer? And it is OS X 10.6.8? (in your profile you state that you have OS X 10.4.11) What version of iPhoto do you have on the new machine that has Mavericks on it? Do you have any photos in your iPhoto library on the new machine?

If you have no pictures on the new machine and If you want to move your iPhoto library so you keep al edits, projects, slideshows, etc then simply trash the iPhoto library on the new machine and transfer the iPhoto library from the old machine to the pictures folder of the new machine - download and run the iPhoto library ugrader and then launch iPhoto 9.5.1 to finish the upgrade - if this is not the case then please provide the details needed and a knowledgeable iPhoto user will give you instruction to accomplish what ever it is you want to do

    Hi Larry HN

I want to transfer photos from my old iMac which is currently running 10.6.8 (it only has 1GB  Memory and 2.16Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo processor).

My MacBookPro is running 10.9.4  and iPhoto is version 9.5.1

When I got  the newer MacBookPro I synced it with my older iMac but did not get all the photos in iPhoto.... maybe because I did not store as "pictures" on the hard drive? Right now I am exporting entire iPhoto library to Pictures on the hard drive... I think

I am cleaning off my files from the iMac because I do graphic design and need a faster operating system for the new Adobe CC software. My plan is to hook my laptop to a larger monitor and work that way but I don't want to lose my old photos. I would be happy to burn them to disc or put on thumb drive....

Once I get all my files I plan to trade or sell my iMac.

    Thanks!

    Xo Terra

To do what you want there is no exporting - no syncing (whatever that is)

    as I said

If you have no pictures on the new machine and If you want to move your iPhoto library so you keep all edits, projects, slideshows, etc then simply trash the iPhoto library on the new machine and transfer the iPhoto library from the old machine to the pictures folder of the new machine - download and run the iPhoto library ugrader and then launch iPhoto 9.5.1 to finish the upgrade

So you connect the two machines together or use a drive formatted Mac OS extended (journaled) and move the iPhoto library from the old Mac to the pictures folder of the new Mac - run the iPhoto library upgraded and run iPhoto

    That is it
