Q: Will iTunes match work with Family Sharing?

Just curious to see if anyone has any idea about this? Would be a great addition as all my families purchased music is on my account, but to move them to another account whilst them still retaining my subscription - seems like a better option for them, as they can start using iMessager and stuff.

    HI,

There has been no announcement made yet regarding iTunes Match.

I'm having trouble getting this working as well.  My situation:

    Two adults, three kids

Each has their own Apple ID for iCloud.  I entered my Apple ID for iTunes & App Store id so they can all access iTunes Match on their devices and purchases are shared across all the devices.  This works great but the problem is, my kids can buy games and music if they have my password

Family Sharing seems like a great idea to solve this problem so adults can approve purchases.  However, I wasn't able to "convert" the kids existing iCloud ids to a "kid" account.  I did create a special kid account for my daughter to try it out.   I used her new kid Apple ID to log into 1) iTunes and App Store and 2) iCloud.   I added my daughter to my Family Share and selected "Ask to Buy"

    Problems:

    1. iTunes Match no longer works on my daughter's device.  It asks her to pay for it.  How do I get this working without entering my id?

    2. Purchases from my daughter aren't coming to me to approve.  I get an error that my credit card doesn't have a security code on file.   Adding the security code on my iPhone and iTunes (Mac) doesn't work - it's not saving when I exit the form (it stays blank).   My daughter is prompted to enter her iTunes and App Store password when she makes a purchase.  Not a great user experience.   Apple knows my daughter is part of the family share and I need to approve her purchases.   Don't ask her for a password.

    What am I doing wrong?

I too would like to know if Imatch will work with family sharing. I have a ton of CD's I'd like for Imatch to recognize and then share with my wife or kids. I don't mind buying one account for me as I know I will use it, but not sure it's worth it for the rest of my family. Would just be easier if family share would work with it is all.

I came to the forums looking for this also. I guess I just figured iTunes Match wold be shared also but it is not.  Might have to actually go back to sharing my/our main iTunes account across 3 devices just because of iTunes Match.  Definitely not paying for it 3 times.  Hopefully they add an option to log in to iTunes Match independent or add iTunes Match to family sharing.  I will be submitting a feature request for it.

You have to continue to log all of them into iTunes / App Store using your Apple ID to get iTunes Match to work completely looks like. Any music you purchase is available for all in your family to download but the music you uploaded into iTunes Match is available only on devices where you login with the original Apple ID used for iTunes Match subscription.

Although you should let them create their own Apple IDs to log into iCloud so that they can have their own iMessage, Mail, Cal, Notes, Photo Stream etc.,

Wish Apple does something to be able to share one iTunes Match library with your family but just let each of them have their own Playlists... seems like a no brainer but not sure what is inhibiting them. May be they don't have the right to freely give away your music even to your own family members?

    1) If you can live with your family members having just the music you purchased on iTunes then they should be able to go under More->Purchased within their device iTunes and download any music you had purchased in iTunes. If you uploaded any into your iTunes Match looks like that is not available for your family (at least not yet)

    2) Not sure about the credit card thing but your family member would still have to enter they Apple ID and their password to download any content. This way even if they are not with you physically you know it is really your kid asking for your permission and not someone else that may have their device.

    Hi, there!

A huge disappointment to me, too. After all the excitement in the presentation about "sharing with family members" it did not even occur to me that iTunes Match could be left out. Share my music ... well, my music consists of about 50 albums I bought from Apple and 600+ albums I bought on CD, ripped and matched. Now I still have to use my personal Apple ID across all devices and manually authorize any purchases for my wife and son. Waaaaaaaaaah ...

A simple short term improvement would be if I could use different Apple IDs for iTunes and App Store, respectively. Better, still, include iTunes Match in Family Sharing.

    Kind regards

    Patrick

All of the promotional material claims you can share music but that must just be purchased songs.  I have a huge library in iTunes match so it will be disappointing if this doesn't work.

Well, after getting my wife all set up with her own iCloud account (haven't gotten to the 3 kids yet) I realized this exact issue is a deal breaker. I switched her back to our singular iCloud/iTunes ID that we've been using for years. We have tons of CDs we ripped and matched along with a bunch of shared Playlists which we share as well. Not having Match as part of family sharing is a major miss and brought me back to basically the same approach we've had for years...sharing an ID.  Unfortunate.

Heres my situation. I enabled Fanily Sharing for myself and my wife. I have iTunes Match to keep my music synced between my iPhone and iPad. On my iPhone i went into iTunes >  Putchased music and saw my wife's account under mine and was able to download an album she recently purchased. It worked without a hitch — showed up in the Music app on my iPhone and I could listan to the songs. However, when I checked on my iPad, the album was listed with no album artwork and the tracks, while listed, wouldn't play or download on my iPad. So it seems like iTunes Match is keeping the two devices in sync but something is preventing me from playing it on anything other than the device I downloaded it on. My assumption was that they could play on both. Hoping its a bug. If Apple doesnt want the ability to match songs I donwload from another family member it should not show up across both devices. Anyone else experience this?

Yeah same issue here and what you guys are saying is absolutely right.  Looks like those of us who keep our music in iTunes match will not be able to use Family sharing the way we thought we could.  I can't get this to work either.  I have one master icloud account with tons of storage and was hoping to break each of my family members (wife, two kids) off into their own icloud and app store accounts under family sharing, but that breaks itunes match.  I suppose the way to get around that is to manually sync music to the sub-devices with iTunes, but that seems like a pain now that we are all used to iTunes match and dynamically updated playlists on all devices when I make changes in iTunes.

Hopefully Apple will see all of these discussions and issues about this and give us an update in one of the upcoming updates to IOS8 to resolve the issue.  It would be nice to simply have a control panel somewhere that lets us authorize a specific number of other apple IDs with our iTunes match accounts.  For now I guess I'm going to disable family sharing and go back to how things were.  It works okay sharing one account for everything, but it is a problem for sure if anyone else gets my password.  I was hoping family sharing would fix all that.

I, too, was hoping that family members could stream music from iTunes Match just like I can on all of my devices. But, that appears to not be the case. Family members can only download the content directly onto each of their devices. Perhaps Apple wants each family member to buy their own individual iTunes Match accounts that they can use to stream the music they've downloaded to their own devices. Seems to go completely against the whole reason for Family Sharing, but, there doesn't seem to be any way to share iTunes Match with family members, only the content purchased from the iTunes Store.

I've been able to download my wife's music purchases to my iPhone after setting up Family Sharing. I have iTunes Match, she does not. With iTunes Match all of my music is in sync between my iPhone and my iPad. My wife's music, that I just downloaded via Family Sharing to my iPhone, shows up immediately on my iPad via iTunes Match but they won't play – the album art is blank and the tracks won't play or download. Is something wrong or is this the correct behavior?

I also would like iTunes match to work with family sharing. My wife and I both use iTunes match and share some of the same songs in our shared playlists. More than half of the music was ripped from CD's that we own. Like many of you we share the same iTunes library between our devices. I have an iPhone 5s and a Mac Book Pro and my wife has an iPhone 5s and an iPad.
