Q: ios - 8 where are the 'camera roll' and 'photostream' albums?

I see the ios8 had done away with the "camera roll" and "photostream" albums and replace them with a "recently added" album. Is there any way to get this old functionality back?

All I want is one folder that contains all the photos on my device and another that contains the photos that I'm happy to share across my devices. I would have hoped I could have create some smart albums, but albums seem to have to be curated manually.

I know I can see all my photos with the photos tab, but there are two issue I have with this, #1 the "collections" interface is horrible – I just want a nice grid of photos like in albums – and #2 my photostream photos are merge within them.

I now have no way of telling if I'm deleting a photo from the phone or the photostream, for example when I'm trying to free up space on the phone.

Would turning on the "icloud photo library" feature help? I would rather not use that as I don't want it to waste all my icloud space.

iPhone 5, iOS 7.0.3

i hate that it all has to be categorized in moments by time

sometimes i will email myself or imessage a older photo i shot on my camera (not my phone) to post on instagram or something

and you have to now scroll thru moments to whenever the date is in the EXIF data of the photo, so dumb.

i dont care about recently added, when you open the camera roll all of the **** at the bottom is RECENTLY ADDED

like everyone knows its their phone.

    go back to camera roll

also what is the option under settings for photos and camera that says "photos tab summarize photos" on or off?

    what does it do?

My only solution to this was turning off "My Photo Stream" under "Photos and Camera" in Settings. Now the Recently Added folder acts the same as my Camera Roll did in iOS7. this is still confusing though....

Something is definitely amiss in photos.

Ignoring the fact the there seems there should be a "My Photo Stream" album which is MIA, I can't believe that Apple sees no need for the camera roll.

Currently even some of their own apps are unable to see all the photos on the device past what is shown in "Recently Added". Settings > Wallpaper for example can't, plus many third party apps like Flickr, Facebook, Twitter, Google+, etc. But Mail, Contacts and Notes can see an "All Photos" album which seems to be the "moments" feed.

I'm glad that I only tried ios 8 on the iPad 3 (which doesn't have many pictures) before I even thought about downloading it onto my phone. This makes me not even want to consider the iPhone 6. Not with this UI.

With Summarize Photos (Photos Tab ON) "Setting>Photos & Cameras", viewing all the photos under the Moments of Photos is actually not bad

That's true!!! from the apple manual it seems like THERE SHOULD BE A FOLDER CALLED MY PHOTO STREAM.

    But there's not!

    :-/

    this is puzzling!

    Totally agree with you! TOTALLY!

It would just be enough if they would let pleple know what is on the device and what is not.

Apparently now the only way to know if a photo is on the device or is in the stream, it's to go into the single photo and see if there is the possibility to make it as favourite with the HEARTH.

BUT... when you have thousand photos in your gallery... you cant enter each photo and check! There should be a quicker way to go and see!

Btw, this Recently added folder is very stupid indeed. Everyone knows that the most recently photos are at the bottom!

This is all insane. Apparently, this is what they have in mind for the future. Also as they presented will be for the application on the mac.

A whole pot full of photos. All together.

They think that all together is good.

    But it's not.

this is a good idea but does this need an extra space to create an album with over 200 photos? i mean if there were 200 photos and they get copied to another album, does these copied photos fill that space, hope i was clear , thanks
