I've updated my iPhone 5c to IOS 8 and I now can't connect to the internet. I've tried both wifi and 4g on the cellular network but it won't connect on either. Wifi is working as I can connect to my home network and control my SONOS music system, and home network connects my mac to the internet so the router is working.

I Have exactly the same problem.
WIfi and 4G are both working (I have other devices using both. Many other devices!) but, despite showing as connected, neither will work.
i Just get told I am not connected to the internet.
This had also meant that every time I attempt to put my apple ID/iCloud password in, it fails (presumably because of no connectivity)

I don't know to what degree the problem that i had relates to what others are seeing, but I had to turn WiFi off and back on to get my networking to work right. At first my iPhone 5 with iOS 8 was not using my Airport Express at all. I tried to view my Network with Airport Utility and the App said it couldn't find any Airport Extreme or Express. My WiFi Signal was great when I sat right next to my Airport Extreme but still the iPhone didn't see any Network with Airport Utility. When I cycled my Settings>WiFi "Off" and back "On" the Airport Utility saw the Network correctly. I have to run back upstairs and to the other end of the house to see if the iPhone is now connecting to my furthest Airport Express.
Have you gone to Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings?
I've rebooted the phone, I've reset network settings and, when that didn't work, I reset ALL settings, all to no avail.
Wifi and 4G both connect, but neither give me internet (neither does tethering to another source)
The problem I have now is (apart from the obvious, that is) I cannot even restore the phone to start again, because that requires me to turn of Find my Phone using my iCloud login, and that won't work because, without connectivity, it can't verify it.
So, I'm stuck with an internet-less iPhone 5 then.

I was able to resolve this problem by deleting my configuration profile for VyprVPN. According to GoldenFrog, the developers of VyprVPN, there is a bug in iOS 8 that can cause the operating system to attempt to route network traffic through a disconnected VPN interface.

Well, by crikey, my man, you are truly a genius!
Deleted (well, turned the "connect on demand" off - havent figured out how to actually delete it yet!) my VPN (also Tunnelbear) and, lo and behold, it's all working again!
I'd give you a medal... or a hug... or something, but my sincere thanks will have to do!

my husband is having the same problem., but has none of VPN settings as described above. If you re-set your network settings what info don you loose or have to re key in?
Personally, I only lost my wifi passwords, but I suppose it depends what other network setups you have.
