WIth the new iOS 8, how do I clear out the recent contacts history when I double tap the home button?

I don't know what you mean by clearing the recent contact history when you double-tap the home button...
as before, you can go to Phone > Recents > Edit > Clear and that will take care of it.

C-burn
go to settings-mail,contacts,calendars-show in app switcher.
you can uncheck recents.
I realize that you can turn the list off but that is not really an answer to C-Burn's question. Currently it does not look like there is a way to clear the list from the double-tap screen. As stated above you can hide it from displaying but if it is enabled again the whole thing is still there.
You CAN clear the recent call list from the phone button however that only clears the list on that screen and not the double-tap screen. This means that the recent call list is likely stored in two separate locations in the iOS:
1: The recent calls page of the Phone menu/app (Which can be cleared)
2: The Double-Tap screen (The option to clear is either hidden in another menu or not available in the current version of iOS8... Maybe in an update)
Could someone who works with Apple please let us know if the above is true or if the option is hidden somewhere and, if so, where to find it?
Articulated much better than my question. But you hit my intended question on the head.
To get rid of the "Recents" at the top of the screen when you double tap the home button, go to...
Settings
Mail, Contacts, Calendars
Show in App Switcher
Toggle off "Recents"
🙂

That's how its done.
Not looking to delete or disable the feature. Once I see who my recent contacts are I want to clear the results. Just like you do from the phone app. "Clear recent" or individual contacts I want to hid from that screen
I see no way of doing it from the home screen. If you like you can send a Feedback to Apple from the Contact Us link.
i thought I found a dork around. Deleted the contact and the r cent item was gone. Kicker is it came back when I added back the contact
this needs to get fixed.....
The funny thing is that I can see the recent calls made using my iPhone also on my iPad mini. This means that the app switcher recent list must be located in the cloud.
Excellent answered my question too woo hop
Its not possible just talked to someone with apple care. If anyone finds away around this let me know. Would jailbreaking help?
Do NOT jailbreak your phone.
If it's a big deal, just turn the feature off in Settings and move on.
I have the same question. Why can't we just delete the history for good, instead of just switching it off. BIG PRIVACY ISSUE.
