Q: Photostream folder disappeared in iOS 8, along with all my photos in that folder. Please help!

If they aren't, how do I delete a photo just from my iPhone (locally) WITHOUT deleting it from the "Photostream" or whatever it is called now?
Actually you can't as far as I figured that out till now.

Not really an issue for me with 64GB-iPhone but my Mom only has a 16GB one.

In iOS7 she deleted the photos she took every now and then after they were uploaded to the photostream to gain back the storage on her device - how do you do that now? It seems, now it's kind of an "all or nothing" - having the photos locally AND in the cloud or having them neither here nor there...

If you plug in your phone to your computer and import your photos from your phone, the photos that are in your recently added folder will import, and all the pictures that you lost should pop up on your computer to be imported also. At least that is what happened for me, so it's worth a try. Then when syncing your phone to itunes, you can select which photos can be added to your phone, and you can just select the folder that the imported folders went into.

guys if your battery is under 20% photosteam will no download pictures in order to preserve battery life.

iCloud: Get help using My Photo Stream

This has to be one of the more surprising and frustrating 'features' of iOS 8.

I would like my camera roll and separate photostream 'roll' back. 

This combined with a couple of my favorite apps not working make me wish I would have left iOS 7 on my older devices and my wife's phone and only used iOS 8 on the iPhone 6.

I turned photostream OFF and then ON again and the pictures are starting to reappear  under my "Recently Added" folder. What this means is that the "Photostream" folder disappeared and now all the iCloud/Streamed pictures will be under the "Recently Added" folder

Did all your photos show up or just the ones from the last 30 days? After following your advice, I only have 57 out of 1000 in my recently added photos.

The only place I've been able to view all of the photos that are on my phone is in the Years/Collections/Moments mode but they are all there, every one from before the upgrade to iOS 8.  Not my idea of a good change.

That's the fact that everybody seems to be missing. Before, Photostream stored 1000 of the most recent photos, regardless of time. Now, it only shows the past 30 days. Before the update, I had the full 1000 photos in my Photostream, now I only have 45. I have those photos backed up on my computer so it's not like they are lost, but I have lost access to them on my phone unless I sync them back.

No. (though seems they were not always removed at 30 days but don't depend on it)

After doing some more research, I understand more clearly now.

The photos that were uploaded to My Photo Stream were only kept on iCloud for 30 days. However, a rolling 1000 photos were also kept on your device in the My Photo Stream album, even if they were gone from iCloud. This was separate from your Cameral Roll.

In iOS 8, there is no My Photo Stream album. So when you upgraded, you "lost" all the photos that were in the My Photo Stream album on your device. Only the photos stored in iCloud(the photos from the past 30 days) were synced back later, showing up in your Collections and Recently Added.

That's just plain confusing and dumb. There should have been more explanation on how your photos would be dealt with during the upgrade. Hopefully most people would have had the common sense to back up their photos to their computer.

How many photos are stored in My Photo Stream on my devices and computers?

iCloud pushes all your photos to the My Photo Stream album on your devices and computers, and manages them efficiently, so you don’t run out of storage space.

Your iOS devices keep a rolling collection of your last 1000 photos in the My Photo Stream album. From there, you can browse your recent photos or move the ones you like to your Camera Roll or another album to keep them on your device forever.

This change does seem to make the process less user friendly and sometimes change isnt good!

I would advocate the use of onedrive, it's a Microsoft app thats free to use and you get a good amount of storage. The app automatically stores all photos and videos you take and you can then access them after you have deleted from your iPhone, only downer is the app must be open to sync  the photos etc. so you have to access it reguarly, it's a good star guard incase anything happens to your phone etc... And easy to use...

So I created a backup to my computer instead of my icloud immediately before updating my phone.. If I restore the back up do you guys think my 1500 pictures will come back? Or is it doomed and too late now?

If they were in your Camera Roll, yes.

However, you should regularly copy the Photos from your Camera roll to your computer and delete them from the Camera Roll (though not sure how this is going to work now).

Well, now that makes sense...even though it really doesn't.

Agreed that more information should have been made available prior to the update ... could have moved the photos from my stream to my camera roll and still had them all on my phone.

Fortunately, I can still get to them on my iPad (didn't update it).

This is more of a question/rant...

downloaded ios 8.. Realised that I now have apps on my iPad that I didn't want ie podcasts and tips! Thanks Apple.  Now after scroll through my photos I have realised that on my iphone4 (that is not compatible with the iOS 8 update   ) it still shows I have 382 photos in my photo stream but on my iPad i don't!! Where have these pictures gone? The whole point of having Photo stream is so the pics are shared... Seems bit pointless.... round of a plause Apple  

how long did it take to reappear and did all the pictures that were on the photo stream appear again?
