Q: Photostream folder disappeared in iOS 8, along with all my photos in that folder. Please help!

Hello,

I just upgraded my iPhone 5 to iOS 8. I only had about 20 photos stored on my phone, and about 100 photos in my Photostream. After updating to iOS 8, I cannot find any of these photos that were in my Photostream, and cannot even find that folder on my iPhone.

Were these photos deleted?

Thank you,

Dan

Thanks ! Your solution worked.  One thing: my photos came back, but now they are completely out of order chronologically. Any idea how to fix this?

Can someone please let me know if it is possible to get my photo that were in photostream prior to the update back? It sounds like only those less than 30 days old would be available. I have a total of 26 pictures that were recovered but I KNOW one of them is older than 30 days. I didnt have anything backed up to the cloud. As far as I know everything backed up to my computer but I never checked. I would back up the phone from there but that last backup time is after I did the update so I dont think that would help.

I really sont understand why the update removed data from the phone. I took the time to delete photos and apps that I didnt need to make room for the update and still lost all the photos.

If you have any advice as to how I can get my photos that were in the photostream, please advise.

But in the new iPhone User Guide, it refers to "the My Photo Stream album on your device", so that makes it sound like there is supposed to be a My Photo Stream album. It even talks about going to your My Photo Stream Album and to save, print, copy, or delete photos in that album, so it seems there is supposed to be a "My Photo Stream" album appearing on the iPhone in iOS8.

I went to Apple Chat and they said the photos are still on iCloud, however they have moved.

    Find them in photos either

    photos/shared(lower center)/activity

    or

    photos/photos(lower left)/collections/moments.

I was missing some photos that were on my Mac photo stream.  So they had me have log out of iCloud (settings/icould/scroll to bottom) *leave photos on phone.  Then logged back in.

looks like I'm up to 300 or so synced from iCloud (old photos stream).

When did you get this option?  Before signing out or after clicking on the Sign Out button at the bottom, i.e. is it before or after this window?

That is still contrary to what the iPhone user guide says, which says there is a "My Photo Stream" album that should appear on the iPhone.

    1. Photo Stream in the Photo app is gone.

    2. What was Photo Stream is now a folder 'Recently Added.'

    3. My Recently Added and Moments sections of the Photo App were a mess until I turned off Photo Stream in Photo in the iCloud settings. I removed all photos from my iPhone through iTunes.  I had too do this twice to actually have them delete.  I then tuned Photo Stream back on in the iCloud settings.  Once on Wifi, my photos began to reappear in their correct chronological order in the Photos section of the Photos app.

    4. The Photos in the Recently Added are still in the wrong Chronological order.

    Per Apple Support Chat.

You photo stream photos are actually in the section that should be labeled as “moments” under your collections. If you are in the photos app, at the bottom you should see where it says photos on the left, tap on that and see if you can find “moments”

    More to follow...

    Listen up people.

Photo Stream on your iPhone consists of TWO sets of photos.

NUMBER ONE: Photos taken within the last 30 days.

The photos taken within the last 30 days are store in iCloud as well as your device. After 30 days, THEY ARE GONE FROM ICLOUD.

NUMBER TWO: The last 1000 photos you took (minus the above)

The last 1000 photos you took are stored ON YOUR DEVICE ONLY. They are NOT stored on iCloud. This is separate from your Camera Roll and is probably the reason why your photos take up so much storage.

When you update to iOS8, there are some changes to your photo albums.

NUMBER ONE: Moments/Recently Added includes photos stored in iCloud. THIS IS ONLY FOR THE LAST 30 DAYS.

NUMBER TWO: The Photo Stream album IS GONE. There is no such album.

That's it. Guess what? There is no place for NUMBER TWO of your Photo Stream. Those 1000 - (last 30 days) of photos, unless you backed them up, are GONE. Hopefully you have another device that you haven't updated yet that also has these photos, or you backed them up to your computer, or someplace else. If not, there might be some data recovery providers that might be able to get your photos back.

I get that the photos are in both the Recently Added and Moments areas, but again, it does state in the NEW iOS8 iPhone User Guide (accessed under Bookmarks in Safari) that there is a "My Photo Stream" album.

I think there is an unspoken problem because of the feature of being able to store photo albums on your iCloud Drive was pulled at the last minute by Apple, although it is promised for the near future.
