Q: Photostream folder disappeared in iOS 8, along with all my photos in that folder. Please help!

Hello,

I just upgraded my iPhone 5 to iOS 8. I only had about 20 photos stored on my phone, and about 100 photos in my Photostream. After updating to iOS 8, I cannot find any of these photos that were in my Photostream, and cannot even find that folder on my iPhone.

Were these photos deleted?

Thank you,

Dan

Jim - I believe you about the user guide, in fact, I just down loaded it and I see the term photo stream.

However, my photo albums no longer have a "Photo Stream" album (and it looks like many others are in the same boat).  I've been in touch with Technical Support and they said the images can now be viewed in albums/"recently added" as well as photos/moments.  They reminded me that the iCloud will hold photos for 30 days.(I think it used to be 1000 photos or 30 days, whichever comes first)  I only have 319 on my phone (going back about 30 days), however I have 1000 on my macbook/photo stream.

I think the guide was produced and some changes were made after.

Anyway, a cool thing that is coming up according to Tech support, we will be able to  view iCloud photos on iCloud.com after October 2nd.

    Cheers

I am also missing photos from my photostream album (although I do have a local backup on my Mac just prior to upgrading just in case this very thing happened).  One interesting thing I've noticed is that my entire "Photos & Camera" local storage on my iPhone shows 75.4MB (58 photos).  But if I look on my iCloud storage on the device under the iPhone backup, it's showing 697MB backed up under my "Photo Library."  Obviously there's some discrepancy here.

I have upgraded to the new iCloud Drive (which may have something to do with this?) and even using my Mac through iPhoto will still only pull the 58 photos, and not the full amount I'm expecting.

The way I did i t was by finding the recently deleted bit in the PHOTOS  app.   The going through this selecting line by line, or block by block of files/photos/whatever.  Then I saved it all to a new album.

Ok, so when you look at your Recently Added album, how are you supposed to know which are physically on your iPhone and which are not, other than, as I notice when you click on a photo, there is either a "Heart" at the bottom allowing you to make it a favorite, or there is the option in the action button to "save image"? And what happens after you favorite a photo?

confusing part is "turning photo stream off" is available in icoud settigs and in "photos and camera" settings.

are these two the same things....

this my photostream thing had been confusing from day one and is still the same, not sure why all these developers can't understand this basic end user problems and fix them for all...it was **** of time between WWDC in june and IOS final roll out and still IOS is released with such major bugs...what a shame.

I turned off my photostream instead from photos and camera roll and they are not appearing in recently added photos. I had over one gig of space blocked in my photo stream and have now lost all these photos...

Its a pain to update IOS in the first week, should always wait for the major update to come before downloading.

This is proveably  inaccurate.  If I view the photo stream on my apple TV that's still on an old version of ios.  I see over 500 photos in the photo stream  most of which are my older than 30 days.  The apple TV has very small storage and doesn't store the photos. It retrieves them over the Internet everyone you view them.  I don't see any of those photos on my ios 8 devices

I signed out from my Apple ID in Settings > iCloud, signed in again and my pictures started to reappear under my "Recently Added" folder!

Ok so my photos appeared again. Apparently they were under the PHOTOS section under collections and moments. Though I'm glad to have my photos back, for some reason its kinda bothering me that they're not under the new "recently added" folder under albums. When using certain photo editing apps, some apps do not give an option of viewing the collection/moments photos....only the recently added photos, which are about 30 "recently added" photos and that's driving me bonkers. FYI i perosnlly don't use icloud to save my pictures given that 5gb isn't enough, thus resorting to deleting unwanted photos or saving them on my computer. I only back up my phone on my Mac in iTunes so...

I Finally found the "moments" under the photo tab at the bottom. Not really sure how I got to it though. I had created a new folder and copied photos from the "years" under the photo tab at the bottom.  The problem with this is all of the pics are haphazardly placed out of chronological order which really *****. You would think a computer company would have software that could keep **** in the order you copied it from one place to another. Anyway, the "moments" area is the same as the "photo stream"  or "camera roll"  album. I think!

It only removes the photos on your iPhone (because you turned off Photo Stream).

The photos are still upon iCloud.

You should regularly copy the photos to your computer.

this can only give  you the photos took within 30 days, right? I tried this too, but couldn't get all the photos from earlier in the summer. so those photos are permanently gone. ?
