Sep 18, 2014 5:34 AM in response to Satanatosby Roy.3051,Having the same problem.
Called the carrier and they said they didn't make any changes and the problem was the iOS 8 or something else.
But not the carrier. Apple's blamed for this -
Sep 18, 2014 8:16 AM in response to rohith81090by Slowsprinter ,Hi

Go in settings and set the network selection MANUAL in carrier

Sep 18, 2014 11:18 AM in response to rohith81090by Atotina,Hi,
I just upgraded my iPhone 5 16GB to iOS 8. Everything seems OK but ....
In Argentina 3G network is very bad. Till now i use 2G and everything was OK.
My supplier will not reconfigure its network because of this problem.
I'm a big Apple fan but..., I think that the removal of this option is a big mistake!

Sep 18, 2014 12:26 PM in response to rohith81090by MadhuJK,I am also having the same problem, after upgrading iOS 7.1.2 to iOS8 on my iphone5, i am unable to switch 2G/3G, i think apple has removed that toggle.
Its really irritating, my iPhone's battery is getting drain within an 3-4 hour because no good 3G single here in india Pune.
If apple don’t solve this asap, really i am changing my mind and i will switch to android phone.
Its irritating .

India is 200 years backward then USA and not only this even in Africa how we can use and in Pacific region ... This is bad idea by apple, apple must not forget it's company of everyone and all trust it. I hope something they will do

Sep 19, 2014 12:10 AM in response to rohith81090by Vikram.R,I think apple has done this update keeping in Mind the developed nations (US, Canada, Japan, Germany etc) where LTE is prominent, in Developing or emerging economies such as India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Turkey etc 2G is still prominent & the 3G infrastructure is still not up-to the mark - although slow but we use it for general data stuff for whats app message, or notifications, typically 3G is used for Facebook / Instagram or uploading attachments but ***** out battery, its important apple take note and update this bug in the next ios8 update n give back the 2G (E) toggle back to users, other wise in developing countries we would have very short battery life where WIFI is not available.
hope you are listening Apple !!!!!

Sep 19, 2014 12:48 AM in response to rohith81090by anchits,Hi rohith81090/ arjun.agarwal/ ritrock,
If you want to downgrade the OS, you can do it by the link shared earlier in this discussion. But for the people in India, I think you do not need to downgrade to iOS 7.1. As in India every service provider is having different packs for 2G and 3G. If you are using 3G occasionally and want to save the battery just add the 2G pack, deactivate the 3G pack and you are done.
The LTE option is provided because in India 4G is also getting popular as Airtel has already launched it and Reliance is going to launch soon. Also Iphone 5 supports TDD LTE band but not the band in which Airtel 4G works.
Yeah, it will be good if Apple can provide that toggle button again for 3G, but its upto them when they are going to do this. Also Apple is going to release an upgrade for iOS 8 soon by this month or in October. So you all can request to add this feature to it.
Hope it solve your problem.
Thanks

Sep 19, 2014 12:55 AM in response to rohith81090by bobcandy,Whatever the higher level Apple fanboys have replied here is totally absurd. Apple has slept over one essential thing which was there in iOS 7 => 2G/3G toggle switch for cellular data. 4G could have been a third option. Instead of that they have totally removed a much required option. And few guys here are shouting out words like "Carrier, not apple". That was hilarious. Before updating to iOS 8 everything was fine. Even now the same sim card works fine in both 2G and 3G in every other phone around (android, windows) except iOS 8.
We need that option (switch between 2G & 3G) and hope it comes soon enough.

Sep 19, 2014 12:58 AM in response to rohith81090by alextriantafyllou,Same problem apple had it before with the ios 7! For some stupid reason they removed the 3G on button back then and now they are doing the same thing, and after a few weeks they released a patch to fix this! https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5325771
Back then people for over 2 months were forced to jailbreak and add third party from jailbreak apps to disable it!.
3G reduces the battery to more than 40% as apple was saying in gray letters under the enable button on 3G.
Carriers don't have complete coverage and most carriers have huge issues on antenna roaming voice over its antennas increasing exponentially the failed calls while moving!
Apple Solution is simple start reapplying Steve Jobs working methods so some people don't turn apple into the worse customer support and development company! They cannot keep repeating the same mistakes over and over again!
Repeating the same mistake while fixing it means someone is doing something EXTREMLY WRONG over at Apple! Or maybe Apple has not listening to its clients!
Maybe Apple will fix it as soon as it receive one of the probably biggest lawsuit against them for reducing the battery life into maybe more than half with the ios 8 upgrade!
I really hope apple will reintroduce the basic principle of development, as steve jobs did as definitely something is going wrong!! Its inexcusable to repeat same mistakes over and over again! Especially when you shamefully fix it in previous events! Or maybe new apple developers simple want to encourage people jailbreaking their phone so they can fix apples wrong doings!

Sep 19, 2014 1:00 AM in response to ChrisJ4203by alextriantafyllou, sorry to say that but you are talking nonsense! Why in 7.1.2 it was working fine and then after the update the button went missing, my Carrier told me i must contact apple!
-
Sep 19, 2014 1:37 AM in response to ChrisJ4203by Steve Nicholls,Sorry, don't believe this to be correct Chris, you generally get a very specific message if there is a Carrier Update to install, and you are given the option to install or refuse. This is clearly an iOS 8 issue.
I'd have personally thought that Apple would have had a toggle called 'Enable 3/4G' so that your phone would connect to the most applicable option. As the user of an iPhone 5 the Enable 4g option is of no use to me at all as nearly all the 4g networks here do not support iPhone 5 as detailed here: https://www.apple.com/iphone/LTE/ only EE appears to work with my iPhone 5 in the UK.
Regards,
Steve
