Same problem here. First of all, this is problem which is came with new ios 8. This issuehas nothing with carriers. I live in Bosnia, and we dont have LTE at all. Only 3g and edge (2g)...The problem is the constant variation of the signal and the frequent unavailability...Ios 7 was not a problem because we could disable 3G and then the calls are automatically switched to 2g, and now it is not the case as he searches for the 3G even if it is one point in the display signal ... apple needs to come back to this settings from ios7 with the option to leave and LTE

I forgot the word that this is because the 3G signal coverage is not very good in my country ...

Hi everybody! I live in Kazakhstan, and I have the same problem. The answer that it is because of the carrier is insane. I used android, and am using windows phone (with different carriers), both phones can easily switch between 3 networks: 2G, 3G, 4G. Even if it's true, in case you want to use lte, you must give up 2G with weak battery on iPhone 5s the phone becomes obsolete, because with 3G enabled iPhone works only several hours, and if you switch off cellular data all this brilliant features (Siri, iMessage, iCloud and etc.) just don't work. I really don't understand isn't it possible to have 2 switches, one for 3G, and for LTE?

l live in UK on EE network. My iPhone 5s was shipped to me with no 2G/3G toggle - just the option to defeat 4G (LTE). As has been said, I believe this is a choice defined by the carrier, not by Apple. Not specific to Apple's iOS 8 update.

Bruce, that was probably due to a carrier update already in place. All who complained in this thread for not having the 3G toggle did NOT receive a carrier update when upgrading to iOS8 ! So this is an iOS8 issue, not a carrier one.

Bruce, is it so hard for Apple to make 2 switches one for 3G and one for LTE? And also I contacted a representative of my carrier, who said this was done by Apple not the carrier.

It is not a carrier related problem. It is due to iOS 8 update. In India every iOS 8 user is bugged with this issue. We do not have 3G coverage everywhere. So weak signals and call issues will be there wherever we go, unless the phone tries to switch to 2G. Also, there is no wifi wherever we go, which means I have to be on 3G always to receive my imessages and whatsapp pings. My iPhone 5S could not survive for more than 3 hours in 3G.

I had enough already from this hasty update which the developers at apple are preparing for only top cities of the world. Ignoring rest of the users around the world.

I downgraded to iOS 7.1.2. Got my 2G/3G toggle switch back. Let them release an update for the entire world, then I will update it again.

For all those suffering, restore your phone to iOS 7.1.2 as soon as possible.

I second that. Do it while you still can, or be stuck with iOS8 until they release an update to fix this, whenever that will be....

No, same buttons stay, change is: cellular data will be 2g, and LTE became 3g...if you have simfree phone u dont have to put data roaming "on"...
