Siri raise to speak in iOS 8
raise to speak is no longer a selection under Settings and it's no longer working. Did they do away with this feature?

Looks like you are right, it's no longer in Siri settings for my iPhone 4s. The iPhone iOS 8 User Guide no longer mentions it either, but tech note iOS: Troubleshooting Siri still does, so it's hard to know if this is a bug or not.
Whatever the case it's a pain, I use it frequently.

Yes, they seem to have phased this out, but they also introduced a new way to access Siri. Just say "Hey, Siri" and Siri will start listening - you don't have to raise it up or even be holding it (but it requires that the phone be plugged in).
Maybe this has something to do with the new ability of raising to speak in the Messages app?
It never worked that well for me anyway across multiple iPhone models.
I think this must be right. I went into Settings/Messages and set off Raise to Listen under Audio Messages, but alas it did not bring back Siri's Raise to Speak option as I hoped it might... I used Siri Raise to Speak every day, I doubt I'll ever use audio messages, and "Hey, Siri" is pretty useless given it only works when the phone's plugged into the charger. Sigh.
I agree, I will never use "Hey Siri" when my phone is plugged in because that would be in the middle of the night when the phone is charging. I wish they could add features without deleting useful features.
Go to http://apple.com/feedback/iphone.html, and let Apple know.
Yeah, I've never really known that to work. I did try but when it gets to the part where you select your OS, 8 is not a selection. That makes that whole process pretty much useless. I don't think Apple really reads thise anyway.
Apple reads each and every feedback, they just don't respond. They just seem to be slow at adding the new OSs to the list, but in the meantime just choose iOS 7 and say you have iOS 8 in the comments.
That s functional only when the phone is in power mode..!!
Just an example. If you are using your phone as a gps device in your car, you 'might' have it plugged in. If that was the case, you could use "hey siri" without taking your hands off the steering wheel... At least that would make sense to me.
Just to make sense in one case, the phased out the previous option that made sense in many ways than one..!
I think this to be one of the worst things they could do to SIRI, having the personal assistant speak back to you trough the earpiece was very useful and enabled you to use it everywhere casually, without having everyone nearby hear your business. I really hope they will re enable it.
Well, if it helps, if you press the home button and open Siri without saying hey Siri you can just put the phone next to your ear and talk to Siri like that.
Totally agree "Raise to speak" is useful. I walk down the street or sit in a cafe and ask Siri to do things as if I'm talking on the phone. Hagong Her respond (or worse, not understand and as questions) is terrible on speakerphone. please bring it back!
I actually think this was replaced by the "Raise to Listen" feature, now that we can send and receive audio messages. If you go to Settings > Messages > Raise to Listen (near the bottom under AUDIO MESSAGES) you can tick that on and off. What's weird though is that my iPhone 5 was still able to Raise to Talk when I was in the messages app, so that when I put my phone to my ear it would let me talk out what I wanted to type. But I had to turn of Raise to Listen for this to work. Maybe it has something to do with the iPhone 5 and/or iOS 8.0...Because now I have an iPhone 6 with iOS 8.0.2 and Raise to Talk doesn't work whether I have Raise to Listen on or off.
