Photos out of order in Events after iOS 8 update

I have an iPhone 5s that I just updated to iOS 8. I sync photos from my Aperture library on my Mac, which show up as a "Events From My Mac" album under "Albums" in the Photos app on my iPhone. In iOS 7 and before, events synced from Aperture would show in reverse chronological order, which made sense. Upon updating to iOS 8, all the events are in a random order. I have events from 2008, followed by 2010, then 2009, then 2012, then 2008, etc...

Has anyone else run into this issue? I know that I'll probably have to resort to telling iTunes to stop syncing photos, delete the "iPod Photo Sync" folder from inside the Aperture package, then re-sync all the photos, but before I go through all that trouble, I was hoping someone might have an easy fix.

Here is my experience. Note I was on Mavericks, using iPhoto, with thousands of events sorted by date... The short story is after updating the Mac to Yosemite 10.10.3, updating the iPhoto Library using the new Photos app (which converts the iPhoto events to Photos albums), upgrading the phone to 8.3, and re-syncing the phone using iTunes - my photos and albums were in the correct order!! Yay!!

There is some devil in the details... Here are the details!

Process and Results

1. Backed up my iPhoto library (ya' never know...)

2. Upgraded iMac from Mavericks to Yosemite 10.10.3 (this also loaded new Photos app)

3. Opened new Photos app, and converted original iPhoto library (note I did NOT turn on new iCloud for sync - I want to use iTunes....)

Results when viewing pics in new Photos app:

a. All my events were converted to albums in a folder called "iPhoto Events" in the new Photos app.

b. The new albums created had the same name as the corresponding event, the same "key photo", and they were in the SAME order as the events were in the original iPhoto Library (mine were sorted by date). Pictures within the album were also in the SAME order as they were in iPhoto

c. Note that the "events" from iPhoto are now "albums" in Photos inside a folder. There does not appear to be a way to automatically sort albums by date in the new Photos app - it seems to be all manual sorting for albums and pics. But the conversion started them out in the same order as the iPhoto events/pics were originally

4. Upgraded iPhone iOS from 7.x to 8.3 via iTunes

a. Note - if you look at you photos on the phone immediately after the iOS update all the events are in random order (same problem this thread is about) but don't worry!!

5. Re-sync'd phone and photos using iTunes

a. Note I selected a subset of the albums within the "iPhoto Events" folder on the iPhone photos sync screen in iTunes)

6. Looked at photos on phone

Results:

a. Albums on phone were in the SAME order as they appeared on the iTunes Photos sync screen

b. For me, that meant the converted event albums were all in the same order as they were prior to these upgrades (yay!!)

Note that to control the order of albums on your phone, you need to get the albums in the order you want within the Mac Photos app first... then sync using iTunes to your phone. So if you import new photos, then create an album, put that album manually in Photos so the sequence of albums is how you want it to show on an iOS device. This applies not only to albums sequence, but also to the folder sequence (and the albums within them),and the sequence of pictures within an album.

Yesterday I was so happy and showed all my friends, that apple learned the alphabet.

And then while looking the pics, suddenly two faces were out of order. They start with an 'e' but were on the top of the list.

Today I've synced again, and now it looks like that about 20% of the faces are in the correct order a to z and then comes the rest ordered from a to z.

Beside this it looks like, that apple is trying to learn the clock. In the past all photos had a delta of one hour in wintertime and two hours during summertime. The new photos after 8.4.2015 I've synced today have got the correct time.

There is another open issue, I have experienced that once synced, not all the photos in a particular event present on the Mac, are present on the iPhone. However after 3 sync attempts all of the them appeared on the phone. I wander why this happens?

That used to happen to me under iOS 7 as well; I think that starts to happen when you have a lot of photos. I don't know if there's a hard limit, but once I got to somewhere around 20,000 photos, anytime I did a restore on my iOS device, I had to sync it at least twice for all the photos to show up.

OK, so here's my update. (Spoiler alert: good news (mostly)!)

I have an iMac running OS X 10.10.3, an iPad Air running iOS 8.3, and an iPhone 6 Plus running iOS 8.3. I am using Aperture 3.6 to organize my photos.

After hearing the promising news from some of you, I decided today to try syncing my 23,000 photos to my iPad and iPhone. It took a while, but all the photos synced in one go to each device. (Previously, when doing a new sync, I would have to do two or three syncs to get all the photos to transfer.)

Upon opening the Photos app on each iOS device, there were "Events From My Mac" and "Faces From My Mac" albums. I opened the "Events From My Mac" album and and all the albums showed in the same order as Aperture! Opening random events also showed that photos were also ordered properly within each event. I then opened "Faces From My Mac" and all the Faces were listed in alphabetical order by first name. But, the pictures under each person's Faces listing was ordered somewhat randomly. It seems like the Faces are ordered within the Events it is pulling from, but the Events themselves under each Faces is ordered randomly.

However, I can live with the pictures under each Faces listing being somewhat random as long as the Faces themselves are in some sort of order, which they are. And the main thing is that Events and the picture within are in correct order now! Finally!
