Q: Photos out of order in Events after iOS 8 update

I have an iPhone 5s that I just updated to iOS 8.  I sync photos from my Aperture library on my Mac, which show up as a "Events From My Mac" album under "Albums" in the Photos app on my iPhone.  In iOS 7 and before, events synced from Aperture would show in reverse chronological order, which made sense.  Upon updating to iOS 8, all the events are in a random order.  I have events from 2008, followed by 2010, then 2009, then 2012, then 2008, etc...

Has anyone else run into this issue?  I know that I'll probably have to resort to telling iTunes to stop syncing photos, delete the "iPod Photo Sync" folder from inside the Aperture package, then re-sync all the photos, but before I go through all that trouble, I was hoping someone might have an easy fix.

I JUST REPORTED THIS AS YOU REQUESTED AND I HOPE IT HELPS. I SHARE THE FRUSTRATION OF OTHERS WHO HAVE SPENT THE TIME ( THE PAST 14 YEARS ) ORGANIZING EVENTS ONLY TO HAVE THAT SEEMINGLY ARBITRARILY ELIMINATED. I HOPE APPLE FIXES THIS PROBLEM OR OFFERS US SOME OTHER "WORK-AROUND"!

Sorry for my ignorance, but what do you mean by "after my shared events" as a work-around solution? Thanks.

Same problem. This is REALLY BAD of Apple to do this.  Just when are they likely to do anything about it?

Better not!  I am teetering on the edge with Apple.  I got the 6plus because I am a photo freak.  It's not going to do the job for me if they don't fix it.  I wonder just how many others are thinking this?   Maybe I'll Facebook it.  PLEASE Apple, get it sorted.

Today I talked to an apple senior engineer.

He told me that it is an wanted feature that the albums in "Events of my mac" appear in a random order.

It's not considered to be a bug and it's even unsure if it will be sorted even when many of us complain about it.

Sad to hear... I have about 600 events created after a one to one lesson because I was told that's the way the fotos should be organized.

And I bought the 128 iPhone6 and 128 iPad Air2 to take them all with me.

I agree the Photo App is completely useless.

Isn't there an other App for watching Photos?

As we already heard the Events are ordered when accessed by Messages or WhatsApp or Contact Photos. So it shouldn't be this hard to create an alternate App...

Whomever you spoke to is useless and should be fired.

I've been in touch with a senior iOS advisor, and he admitted this needs to be fixed and understands the frustration.

I asked him to let the person in charge of native iOS apps know about this issue and he said he would.

I told him it's extremely amateur that this bug would get through in the first place and that it's an even bigger slap in the face to their customers that it still wasn't fixed in iOS 8.1.

This is frustrating and irritating to me. Bought an iPad mini and iPhone 6 with 128 MB to get all my photos and videos synchronized and organised by events (thoroughly planned for years) and we get this useless native photo app in iOS 8. I understand this is an important inconvenience. I don't feel as owning the best products in the world, as Apple repeatedly claim. Well, if there is allegedly 100% customer satisfaction, you can begin by dropping me...

Just to add to the many 'me too' posts (as I'm seeing this thread as a sort of petition to Apple!) this is highly annoying.

If developers don't believe this is a problem and that random ordering is the way forward then I have grave concerns for apples future direction!

Please Apple - sort this out! (no pun intended).

Lodge feedback with Apple at: https://www.apple.com/feedback/

I have just had 3 online chats and talked to 2 technicians by phone and this is what I finally got told!

If they get enough feedback Apple 'may' address the issue.

    I'm waiting with baited breath!

I have just complained yet again to Apple.  I tell everyone I know and have posted it on Facebook. What else can we do?  We just need  to encourage everyone to start a landslide on this.  It has taken the joy of owning my new 6plus completely away cos it is such a pain trying to find a photo quickly. As for Moments and Collections - novelties but absolutely not of any major use.  Am so angry with Apple. They have  been so sneaky.

I spoke with a senior Apple Care technician and iOS 8 does not support iPhoto. In the months to come, with the launch of Yosemite, iPhoto will be replaced by Photo, and "Events" will cease to exist, replaced by moments. The technician did not know if iPhoto events will automatically convert to moments, nor when Photo would launch on the Mac.

Apple basic stance is hey, I know better than you, and I am going to force everyone to the cloud.

So iOS 8 will NEVER sort events correctly. It is not a bug. It is working as designed, because they designed it not to support events.

Now the harder question - for a company that prides itself on everything just working together, why release things in pieces? Well, Apple is not what it used to be and all of us know it. Its for the masses now, not us.

OPEN LETTER TO MR TIM COOK

    Dear Mr Cook

I was once told that when there is a problem to be sorted, going to the top man is the best route. Well I have a problem .... and a lot of other people have the same problem also.

Tell me please, when the iphone 6 and 6 plus were announced to the public, why was there no mention of the havoc that Events were going to impose upon them?

This is how you described the phone:-

“iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are the biggest advancements in iPhone history,” said Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO. “The iPhone is the most loved smartphone in the world with the highest customer satisfaction in the industry and we are making it much better in every way. Only Apple can combine the best hardware, software and services at this unprecedented level and we think customers are going to love it."

I am a committed apple user and I cannot tell you how thrilled I was when my husband bought me the iphone 6 plus.  I wanted the six plus because I am a photo freak. Then the bombshell dropped when I realised my photos were all out of sync - that there was nothing I or any of the other complainants on the net, growing day by day - could do about it because Apple simply think it is not something worth worrying about.  Don't you realise that Moments and Collections are a novelty only?  We - the public - want to store our Event folders in alphabetical order.  It seems SNEAKY OF APPLE to try and slide Events out the back door in the way Apple is doing. It's the best way to lose customers Sir.

Please talk about this with your colleagues and address this as a matter of some urgency. In the greater scheme of things at Apple I guess it doesn't make waves but if you really mean what you said and what I have underlined above, it would be appreciated by us all.

    Yours sincerely,

    Linda Smith, Norfolk, UK
