Q: Photos out of order in Events after iOS 8 update

I have an iPhone 5s that I just updated to iOS 8.  I sync photos from my Aperture library on my Mac, which show up as a "Events From My Mac" album under "Albums" in the Photos app on my iPhone.  In iOS 7 and before, events synced from Aperture would show in reverse chronological order, which made sense.  Upon updating to iOS 8, all the events are in a random order.  I have events from 2008, followed by 2010, then 2009, then 2012, then 2008, etc...

Has anyone else run into this issue?  I know that I'll probably have to resort to telling iTunes to stop syncing photos, delete the "iPod Photo Sync" folder from inside the Aperture package, then re-sync all the photos, but before I go through all that trouble, I was hoping someone might have an easy fix.

Well don't you think they would have the courtesy to explain it ?  We pay them a lot of money, a lot of attention and give  them a lot of kudos - the vey least they could do is to give a general explanation without disclosing commercial secrets etc etc.

I agree it would be nice, especially if the reason they're doing it is for some future stuff that we're all going to like. But that's never the way Apple has done things. They're very careful about keeping future moves secret. And, in general, this has worked well for them. Companies that leak or announce future plans can get into big trouble. They can kill sales of existing products, or open themselves up to liability suits ("you promised us this").

The way that Apple is handling this is totally in pattern. It's unfortunate that we're inconvenienced so badly, but they may have anticipated that and weighed the decision. Then again, maybe not. And, who knows, maybe they'll fix it and let us have our date-based event/album sorting back.

I'm not defending Apple, here, just explaining as best we know what might be going on. I've said previously that I'm really unhappy about the direction Apple and other vendors are taking to force us into their cloud-based architectures. Not only do we have to pay for it, but we have to accept inconvenience (what happens when you don't have Internet access?) and security risk (just ask Jennifer Lawrence about the photos she had stored in iCloud). I try to keep my options open - I use Apple products when they suit my needs and pleasure, but I have other platforms at the ready for when they don't. If you can, I recommend trying to do that. Don't get yourself locked into a single vendor's ecosystem. It's a lot more work, but you won't regret it.

In October I talked to a senior advisor. He created 5 events, synced them to his iPhone and recognized they were out of order.

He realized "something was not right" and promised me to contact me by email.

After 1 week I wrote him an email and asked what he found out. No answer. I contacted him twice - still no answer.

In November I contacted the Hotline again and was again connected to an senior advisor. Same stuff - same behavior.

Seems like they were not allowed to make an statement about this bug.

3 years ago I switched to apple. Since then I bought:

    iPhone 4, 4s, 5 (2x), 5s, 6 (2x)

    iPad 2, 3, Air, Air2

    Apple TV (6x)

    MacBook Air (2x)

    Mac mini (4x)

I bought them because I loved their functionality and the service I received from Apple.

But this is the worse experience I ever had.

I will never spend any money for their products!

    Bye Apple!

So ... you're going to buy other products in the future? I'm not criticizing, but if you ever have the time/interest to come back to this forum, please let us know what you chose and how it compares. I haven't had enough time to play with Android devices, yet (plan to, though), but I'm pretty sure they have some problems that are just as frustrating. And Google has an even worse record of responding to customer problems, from what I gather. But do let us know. We will all benefit from the information, whether we decide to stay with Apple or not.

I more or less had the same experience last year with 2 Apple Senior advisers, regarding Apple's decision to delete the option to choose a dedicated song for each slideshow. At first I was pleasantly surprised to get an Apple senior on the line. (so they DO help you after all...) But this feeling soon faded away as it became clear that these Senior's don't help you at all. They're friendly and polite and give you the impression that the issue will be solved in a wink of an eye, but actually nothing's being solved at all. I also have the impression they have to follow a strict procedure and are not allowed to give any statements about Apple products...a bit childish in my opinion. Please. Just admit there is an issue and if you're not going to solve it, than please let us know so we can move on.

I'm in total agreement. I just installed IOS 8.1.1 update and the photo syncing issue could not be more frustrating. I cannot believe Apple doesn't test these "updates" before release and realize the most basic fixes that could be incorporated into them. Photos are often in random order even after countless deletions of the iPod Photo Cache and reloading back into iTunes. I'll sync one album only to have the next attempt at syncing a different album cause the original to go out of sync. Someone, somewhere in Apple: Please fix this issue before releasing another so-called "update.:

...... But Uriah, it ain't gonna happen cod it's not a blip. It's deliberate because of what they are going to do next. Whenever that happens. I used to say US when referring to Apple - I now say THEM.

Having the same frustrating folder problems.  After 8.1.1, I have 3 Misc folders, 3 Instagram folders, 2 portraits folders.  Out of my 15 Folders, no one has the correct photos in it.  It's like some one dropped a 1000 photos on the floor and scooped them up and randomly filled my 15 Folders!

HOw about this Apple?  Let me manage my own photos and folders.  Stop creating folders like Slo-mo because I have one slo-motion video. I don't want a slo-mo folder.  If I did, I'd make one.  These are my photos and videos, not yours and I'll manage them as I see fit.  Please stop!  I'm begging you...

FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS HOLY....

    FIX THIS.

This has really diminished the usability of the phone, since i use photos often.

I'm glad I found this post.  After downloading iOS 8 and struggling for weeks trying to adjust the order of my 600 > events, I went out and bought an iPhone 6 thinking that it was my old iPhone 5 was the problem.  Because of this and some major problems with my one year old iMac 27", I'm seriously considering dumping my Apple products, which I only purchased at the urging of my kids.

I Have just tried to change the photo associated with one of my contacts on my iPhone (latest release) and when selecting from existing photos, all of the events are sorted in alphabetical order. So it can be done and it looks like it was a very sloppy oversight.

I'm assuming iOS 8.1.2 doesn't fix our issue, but on the off chance that someone has installed 8.1.2 and has tried syncing photos, is our issue resolved?

I'm guessing IF a fix is coming, it'll be in iOS 8.2, but that's a big if.

    You are quite an optimist!

I haven't been in a hurry to update to 8.1.2. I suspect that the release notes for this update would've left at least some clue if this problem had been fixed. I don't expect that it will be fixed in 8.2, either. In fact, I'd be surprised if it's ever fixed. But anything's possible.

Still loving my new Blackberry, which, interestingly, doesn't have a wonderful way to sort photos, either (but I'm only using the native app so far).

LOL, I think it's because I REALLY want this to be fixed.

I haven't been in a hurry either.  I was hoping since 8.1.2 contained "bug fixes", maybe this was one of the bugs.  But I am probably being way too hopeful.

What a mess. I can´t really believe that so many weeks have passed and no bugfix has been prepared. I really hope they will fix this, it seems that 8.1.2 is still not a final solution.
