Q: Photos out of order in Events after iOS 8 update

I have an iPhone 5s that I just updated to iOS 8.  I sync photos from my Aperture library on my Mac, which show up as a "Events From My Mac" album under "Albums" in the Photos app on my iPhone.  In iOS 7 and before, events synced from Aperture would show in reverse chronological order, which made sense.  Upon updating to iOS 8, all the events are in a random order.  I have events from 2008, followed by 2010, then 2009, then 2012, then 2008, etc...

Has anyone else run into this issue?  I know that I'll probably have to resort to telling iTunes to stop syncing photos, delete the "iPod Photo Sync" folder from inside the Aperture package, then re-sync all the photos, but before I go through all that trouble, I was hoping someone might have an easy fix.

HELLO,  STILL A BIT CONFUSED.  SO YOU HAVE A PROJECT AND AN ALBUM FOR EACH GROUP OF PHOTOS.  IS THIS CORRECT.   IF SO THEN ALL THE PHOTOS ARE IN THE CORRECT ORDER ON ALL IOS  DEVICES.

This is a total mess. With hopes of finally getting rid of this issue I updated my iPad Air 2 to iOS 8.1.3, my iMac to 10.10.2 and iTunes 12.1. Then I removed all the photos from iPad and resynced they back in. The result? Well, all the old problems with messed albums and events still exists, but now also most of my photos on timeline are dublicated. This really ****** me off!

I too have problems with some (not all) photos appearing out of order, even if they were fine before. I also have photos duplicating for some reason sometimes, but again not all the time.

uusing the excellent Sky+ app on my iPad to program the to, I have just been asked by it if I want to view my photos on the to screen using a new feature. I said yes and it then displays my events in alphabetical order to select. Boom!

    Come on Apple, keep up!

IIt's the UK version of TiVo. Only for Sky TV customers. It proves the events can be sorted though.

I found an App that can work for us.

It's called exPhoto and it just do what we want. Display all our events sorted as they are sort in iphoto. I tried several apps until find this one. There is many options that actually show the event on the correct way, but this one it's light and easy to use, allowing extensions which is nice.

How on earth has a bug raised in this thread in September STILL not been fixed... Especially given it's such a simple fix to sort event photos in exactly the same order iPhoto sorts them, in fact the same order all my previous iPhones sorted them.

It's doing my head in as you try to share or show a quick picture to someone and it takes 5 minutes to get to it now. It's such a small thing but it's SO FRUSTRATING!

    Please fix this!!!

I'm guessing it's because with the new Photos app for Yosemite, Apple is moving away from how iPhoto/Aperture organizes photos, i.e., events.

It is still terrible on their part to not keep the current organization scheme until iOS 8.2/8.3 when iOS is updated to work with the new Photos app on Yosemite.

My understanding (and hope) is that once we update to Photos on Yosemite, it will import our iPhoto/Aperture events and convert them to albums, which should then sync correctly with iOS 8 devices.

So, here is my latest fix and findings.

    • Connect your device.
    • In iPhoto - Select your device - Photo's -->sync photos - Unselect "All Albums" and Select "Selected Albums, Events"
    • Unselect every event, album and faces
    • Sync

ALL PHOTOS should be removed from your device.

    • In iPhoto - Select your device - Photo's -->sync photos - Unselect "All Albums" and Select "Selected Albums, Events"
    • (a) Select the first event you want in your list  (e.g. mine was the oldest event 1991)
    • (b) Sync
    • (c) Select the next event you want in your list (e.g. mine was 1992)
    • Repeat (b) and (c)

Your photo events will be in the order you sync'd them.  This took me 2 hours each (iPad/iphone) for this stupidness.

CAUTION #1: You're hard disk will get full because iTunes is keeping track.  I have 40g of photos.  I had 70 gig of storage that turned into 7g fast.

CAUTION #2: I use Dr Cleaner.  It picks up that iTunes has backups to delete.  DO NOT delete.  Your history will be gone and your photos will resync out of order.  That cost me an extra hour.

    Have fun.

Did you mean iTunes instead of iPhoto?

YES!  Sorry for the confusion.  You make the change in iTunes.

    Thanks for picking that up.
