Q: Photos out of order in Events after iOS 8 update

I have an iPhone 5s that I just updated to iOS 8.  I sync photos from my Aperture library on my Mac, which show up as a "Events From My Mac" album under "Albums" in the Photos app on my iPhone.  In iOS 7 and before, events synced from Aperture would show in reverse chronological order, which made sense.  Upon updating to iOS 8, all the events are in a random order.  I have events from 2008, followed by 2010, then 2009, then 2012, then 2008, etc...

Has anyone else run into this issue?  I know that I'll probably have to resort to telling iTunes to stop syncing photos, delete the "iPod Photo Sync" folder from inside the Aperture package, then re-sync all the photos, but before I go through all that trouble, I was hoping someone might have an easy fix.

On the last iOS, 7 i think, when the sync happened to the phone, the order was changed on events from numerical numbers on the mac (if the event was numbered) 1,2,3 to alphabetical numbers, 1,10,100 etc then 2, 20 etc.  iTunes:  from album name order under artist on mac to date of album release order on iPhone.  Contacts, if some contacts were like mine for rental properties under number of house, as events above.  I cannot work out why different devices have different order.   AAAgh

I'm sorry you are all having this problem as well but it's driving me nuts. Both mine and my husbands photo's are affected and they are showing the events in different order from each other.  I really hope they fix it soon as all our photo's are useless at the moment because it takes so long to find the one you want. HELP!!!

That is interesting; so it might not even be an iOS 8 issue, but rather a Photos-app-in-iOS-8 issue.

Anyone brave enough to try the iOS 8.0.2 update and see if it fixes the Photos app Event order issue?

The weirdest thing is that the order in which the albums are displayed depends on the apps that show the albums. Here is a quick survey of the apps that use photo on my iOS 8.0 iphone 5: It is a big mess...

    • Skitch, from Evernote: The local Album "Skitch", Events in Aperture order,, then the "Faces albums", in random order, then Recently added, icloud albums (other local Albums are not shown because they are empty)
    • Evernote: Local Albums (random order), then Recently Added, Then icloud albums. Faces or Events NOT showing...
    • Camera+ : the order is random, mixing Faces album and events
    • Pic Stitch: Recently added, Local albums, icloud albums, Events, in "Aperture" order, then the Faces album, sorted alphabetically by people's name
    • iMovie: random order, NOT showing Faces Albums
    • Magisto: Events, in "Aperture" order, then the Faces album, in random order, then Recently added, icloud albums
    • Slide X: Events, in random order, then Faces Albums, in alphabetical order...
    • Instagram: Random order, Events and Faces mixed
    • Photo Eraser: Recently added, Local albums, icloud albums, Events in Aperture order, Faces in alphabetical Order
    • Halftone: Events in Aperture order, Faces in alphabetical Order, Recently added, icloud albums
    • Dropbox: Recently added, one local Album (Skitch), Events in aperture order, Faces in random order
    • Apple Contacts (to choose the photo of a contact): "All Photos:, Recently Added, local non-empty albums, icloud albums, Events, in aperture order, Faces, in alphabetical order

As you can see, an Apple application (Contacts) got it right !!!! Why on earth is this so messy ?

Apple, again, do something to fix this... Give developpers sensible APIs  so that end-users get a consistent user experience when doing the same thing (ie selecting pictures...).

As suggested by somebody in this thread, I am definitely writing to Tim Cook about this. there is definitely a usability issue... that is what I like about the iOS platform, consistency in the Human Interface design to make things simple for the users... This is a big fail for displaying Photos apparently...

Also having this issue. The photo app sees my ordered iPhoto events in seemingly random order yet the "Photo Picker" control used throughout the operating system sees them in the correct order. Not only that, but the "Search" in Photos doesn't even look through the event names so that won't find an event to drill down on.

If you are a developer, submit a bug report to http://bugreport.apple.com/. I did and it was closed as a duplicate so at least it's being looked at.

Yes, I also noticed my events were in alphabetical order (how they should be) when choosing a photo to send from within the messages app, but when trying to browse through them from within the photos app itself, they are in a completely random and useless order.

iOS 8.0.2 on iPad Air, and events are still in random order... wish I could punch Apple in the face.

.. wish I could punch Apple in the face.

But you will not hit the right face, because they have the incorrect order, too.

Well this is an interesting discussion. Firstly, since installing the 8.02 update today I have finally been able to get Events from iPhoto on my Mac onto my iPhone (4s). And they are not in alphabetical order. It seems the Apple way is to dazzle us with all these wonderful features when they are launched, which we adopt eagerly only to be discarded later on. Having events in alphabetical order on my iPhone enables me to effortlessly find photos amongst 20,000. It seems the shift in focus is on photos captured on the iPhone which are unlikely to ever be meticulously sorted by the mass user, so automatic sorting by moments and years and locations is the solution. But please Apple, don't dumb down your offer, it is the reason why we are loyal users.

Updated my new iPhone 6 to 8.0.2 today and just got around to syncing my photos tonight and the events are also in a completely random order as well as the faces.  Awesome.

I have this problem now and had it with the iOS 7 update.  It took 4 or 5 updates to iOS 7 to resolve.  Right now, not even all photos from an event are syncing to iPhone nor iPad and Key Photo not the same.  I imagine Apple thinks I'm doing something wrong.  I'm not.  I"ve pulled all photos off, re-synced minus some events and it still isn't working.  I must admit, 1 event is 6698 photos.  That may be too much.

I am posting to pile on in hopes that someone from Apple will be courteous to tell us they know about this and are working on a fix.  Pleez.
