Q: i can't boot bootcamp

Hi everyone! windows 7 has been working great. A couple days ago i resized the partition because it was to small using mini tools partition resizer. I tried using it again today and when i moved the empty partition in OS X using disk utilities (to make it bigger) and went to reboot in to windows, windows wasn't there any more, my only boot options are macintosh HD and recovery, i don't know what went wrong or what to do. I only want to reinstall as last resort. the disk is still there in disk utility but it is not bootable.

please help

MacBook Air, OS X Mavericks (10.9.4)

Select each MS Data by using up/down keys, note down the start/end, and use "P: List files" to look for familiar files.

I suggest checking all of MS Data  partitions. If they are 2880 bytes, they may contain the boot block. You have an MS data at 435... you should check that, and sequentially check all of them.

How are you able see only 2 partitions in the last screen, but the one before that shows 3 MS Data partitions.

What exactly was done to get into this state?

Ok, a couple of things to say. 1 there was only 2 MS data that i have seen. 2 (how this happened) i use mini partition wizard in win7 to make more space, it worked fine but the second time i did this i encountered this error. 3. i think i found something that will help us.

In this thread https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6534130?tstart=0 were you unable to install the drivers and get bootcamp to work?

If this a new installation and you do not have any data in Windows to save, I suggest deleting Windows via Bootcamp assistant and starting over and this time, pick the correct size for your Windows partition, so you do not have to resize windows. Resizing with any tool is not recommended.

Actually, i did get the drivers working, is it impossible to fix this now?

It will be much faster since you have no data worth saving anyway, just use Bootcamp assistant and delete windows and start over again. The partitioning tool is a really bad tool to use, because it cannot handle a GPT/MBR disk. It should not be allowed on Macs.

First, can boot camp get ride of the disks04 file, second is it possible to do the installation via usb instead of CD (my CD reader isnt working and the airs dont have CD drives) and third, how exactlly would i be able to put windows on the USB.

Note, i still have the drivers from the last time

    1. Use Disk Utility to delete disk0s4. Run diskutil list and make sure you have only EFI, Recovery HD, and OS X on the Bootcamp machine.

    2. You seem have two Macs, not one, that is the MBA and another with a bad Optical drive. What model/year are they? Based on this it can be determined if the they are "compatible".

No no, i only have the MBA what i meant to say that the external optical drive is not working. A other thing, when i am in the boot camp app and it ask me how much i want to reparation, it shows that OSX has 100 or so GB, does that seem right? Also, if i delete disks04 or what ever it was, will it rejoin the main OSX partition? And finally, because i can't use the win7 CD how do i instal windows using a USB?

    1. If you delete disk0s4, the space should become available. You need to ensure in DU that after deleting disk0s4, you can drag the bottom left cornet and make OS X the full size it can be. (the EFI and Recovery HD will stay hidden and cannot be resized by DU). This will give you a "single" partition that BA can handle.

    2. How did you install W7 without a working optical drive the first time? If you built the USB on the MBA using Bootcamp drivers and an ISO image on the internal disk, you do not need to rebuild it? You can use it as is. If it has the incorrect drivers, the 5.1.5640 drives can be downloaded from the Windows side and directly installed on Windows without needing the USB.

    3. If you have a valid product key, you can download an ISO from Microsoft's website directly on the MBA internal disk and rebuild the USB and the ISO combined USB via Bootcamp assistant. Please see http://www.cnet.com/how-to/how-to-download-the-official-microsoft-windows-8-1-is o/ for details.

I installed windows at the apple store because i tried doing it myself earlier with my external optical drive and it did not work. I have the product key and i am downloading the ISO image right now (from my mac). The thing i am worried about is that i have been reading that the MBA cant boot from a USB. is this true? and if so how do i make it bootable (from my mac).

Once the ISO image is done downloading do i just drag and drop it in to the USB or do i have to do something else?
