Q: iMessage sends to wrong number

When I use iMessage to send a message to my son's non-iphone, it goes to a completely different number (of someone I do not know).  If I send as a text message it goes to my son's number.

Is there a way to correct this?

Can I set it so iMessage always sends via text/SMS to his number?  I like using it for other numbers.

All other messages to non iPhones have worked smoothly until this.

I appreciate any insight

    Hi mcfadden94114,

If you are having issues sending messages to a specific contact (your son, in this case) but are able to message other contacts without issue, you may find the troubleshooting steps outlined in the following article helpful, in particular items 3 and 4 of this portion (there may be incorrect information associated with your son's contact):

If you still can't send or receive an iMessage, follow these steps

    1. Make sure that the contact trying to message you isn't blocked in Settings > Messages > Blocked.
    2. Make sure that the contact you're trying to send a message to is registered with iMessage.
    3. If the issue occurs with a specific contact or contacts, back up or forward important messages and delete your current messaging threads with the contact. Create a new message to the contact and try again.
    4. If the issue occurs with a specific contact or contacts, delete and recreate the contact in the Contacts app. Create a new message to the newly created contact and try again.
    5. Back up and restore your device as new.
