Sep 25, 2014 2:41 AM in response to theborgvby Chuck Gould,Just had this happen to my iPad Air. Only the one time, so far.
The fix, as mentioned earlier, is to go to settings > multitasking gestures and toggle it OFF, then back ON.
Only been ten minutes, but so far it hasn't failed again.

Sep 25, 2014 4:16 AM in response to theborgvby firepower,Same problem for me on iPad Air, iOs 8.0 (12A365). Happens quite a lot.
Same fix, mostly I turn Multitasking Gestures off then on in Settings.

Sep 25, 2014 6:48 AM in response to theborgvby ScottNY71,I have this issue as well, and reported it on Monday here: iPad Air multitasking gestures fail randomly in iOS 8
I've found that locking the iPad, then unlocking it also resets the gestures to work again (as does turning them off and on again in settings - but my way is usually faster).
I've done all of the restarts and resets everyone recommended and nothing worked for me. Don't waste your time - we need Apple to fix this. But this is far less of a prevalent (or critical) issue than the iPhone home button issue, battery life, wi-fi and others, so hopefully this gets on Apple's radar and gets fixed. It is quite annoying.

Sep 28, 2014 11:53 PM in response to Fennekin90156by wastedsunsets,Wondering why we should have to restart, change screens or turn things on and off again etc to fix some thing that obviously is an Apple problem No wonder Android is doing so well at least they acknowledge problems

Sep 29, 2014 5:08 AM in response to theborgvby ScottNY71,Last night, after talking with a Mac Genius about a different issue with my phone, I decided to back up my iPad to iTunes (as opposed to iCloud), restore it via iTunes (as opposed to over the air) and restore my backup. She said that upgrading and restoring backups via iTunes is more reliable than OTA updates and iCloud backups. When I had upgraded to iOS 8 and then 8.0.1 and 8.0.2 on this iPad, I had done it all over the air.
I'm happy to report that as of now, approximately 18 hours after doing the update, this issue and my issue with spotty Wi-Fi in my house have both gone away, at least for now, with heavy usage.
If the problem comes back, I will let everyone know on this thread. If you don't hear from me again, assume that this fixed the problem and I would recommend everyone do the same.
Good luck!

Sep 29, 2014 5:47 AM in response to ScottNY71by rach_s_mom,I Can't believe that is Apple's fix. This should have been fixed in ios 8.0.2. via wifi. No 18 hour user intervention required. I refuse to accept your fix as a solution. Come on Apple. Fix this properly using the features you have made us users grow accustomed to using.
SOur our apples here.

I didn't say you have to "accept my fix" as a solution. I simply offered my experience to help out my fellow iPad users. I agree we shouldn't have to jump through hoops to fix something like this, but as a manager of software development, I understand bugs, prioritizing them and upsetting people who experience them. On the scale of Apple, it's orders of magnitude larger than my projects are.
Having said that, as soon as I opened my iPad at work this morning, the issue came back. So we're back at square one. Sorry for getting anyone's hopes up (or annoying anyone). So it only worked as a temporary fix.

Sep 29, 2014 6:56 AM in response to rach_s_momby rach_s_mom,Sour apples to the IOS, not to you ScottNY71. I truly appreciate the temporary workaround. I'm just in a little disbelief that in IOS 8 the developers and QA people let this go, not to mention in IOS 8.0.2 as well. I surely hope they fix it as it's quite annoying.
The one workaround of swiping down the notification centre and closing it seems to temporarily reset the gesture.
Please Apple, don't become Microsoft.

Sep 29, 2014 7:36 AM in response to rach_s_momby waitingp8tently,I am afraid that they have taken the fork in the road that Microsoft did. This is no longer Steve Job's Apple that we all knew.

Sep 30, 2014 2:16 AM in response to wastedsunsetsby mrx65a,Same complaints with me. Hope they fix it soon!
After the update multiple apps crash. Have removed them and installed again. Not a sign of a stable system.

Oct 5, 2014 9:12 AM in response to theborgvby T00LF00L,AAnnoying little bugs like this will never get fixed. Apple always produced crap without Steve Jobs in charge, and they always will. The iPhone 6 is a complete joke and so is iOS 8 and iOS 7.. I despise every change made since Steve passed away. I have turned off virtually every single new feature that came with iOS 8 because they all suck. The company should stop making anything and just sue Samsung as much as they can, that's all they're good at anymore.

I Have the same problem. This method fixes it for me, albeit temporarily, as well.
