Q: Multitasking Gestures occasionally fails (ios 8)

i just upgraded to iOS 8, now gestures fails occasionally when in apps. I try to swipe up with four fingers, and pinch wih four fingers, but none of them works. I had to use the button to exit. Did anyone else experience this?

Yesterday i chatted with an apple representative, his "solution" was to restore the ipad and try if the error re occurs without restoring data.... Sorry but i will not go through that for such a childish bug..

When this issue first came up and I read the forums, I did a restore on my iPad Air (original) and it did not help the issue so I restored from my backup. I also reported this to Apple through the developer bug reporting system last week and my bug report was marked as a duplicate. So they definitely know about it.

On a side note, unrelated to the post directly above, it's disheartening to me how many people here ask questions that were clearly answered in previous posts.

I've already restored factory settings on my new iPad Air 2 due to a separate issue with wifi losing connectivity.  Neither the wifi nor the multi-tasking gesture issue was fixed as a result.

I have found that rotating from portrait to landscape (or the opposite) will solve the problem, temporarily.

Me too encounter this issue, dunno what trigger this error,

hope they can fix this up quickly, it's quite annoying when you want to close app but you can't do that with 5 fingers.

i wonder if apple is informed for this error? are they see our post here??

IIt's interesting to note that rotation fixes it as I have noticed my screen sometimes rotates when I lock it.  When I unlock my iPad the screen will be in a different orientation ffrom when I locked it.  This is maybe the same time at which multitouch gestures fail?

I don't know.  I've not experienced that.  I am almost always in portrait mode, and, one minute it's working, the next it's not.  A quick rotation always fixes it, temporarily.  It seems that I am either in Mail or Safari when it happens.  I can't recall it happening with other apps, but that doesn't mean it doesn't happen.

I have this issue too.  Also, another weird quirk: In messages, the quick video message functionality doesn't work.  If I press and hold the camera button, all I get is the standard option to send a picture.  The quick audio message does work.  I actually did restore my ipad (super annoying), and it made no difference.  Anyone else have this issue?

Same problem right here. Would love to have this fixed, it's terribly annoying.

I won't update my mothers iPad Air to iOS8 before this is fixed, she'd freak out all the time because of this bug.

8.1.1 has been seeded yesterday to developers as BETA, so now we will have to wait and hope the fix is in there..

BBrand new iPad Air 2 with iOS 8. Same problem. Toggling multitasking gestures on and off 'fixes' the problem. Let's hope Apple sort this problem it in the next release.

in exactly the same position. Brand new iPad air 2 bought after selling my air 1 replacement unit for exactly the same bug. Diagnostics showed many issues with the old one and it has carried over to the new iPad Air 2. There are instances in Safari where I click on something and it won't go to the link. I have to pull down the notification screen about a third of the way down the page before clicking the link for it to work. Pulling down the notification screen also rectifies the gestural issue we are having - temporarily. When using procreate, there are apparent issues when using gestures (twisting the canvas for ease of painting, etc).

buggy as **** and I'm not happy with the lack of support. I have reset and reinstalled both of my devices into double digits now both over wifi and connected to a pc. It's still happening. My old iPad 3 for work has not updated to 8 as we aren't allowed to yet - that iPad works absolutely fine.
