Ipad mini with retina wifi extremely slow/dead after ios 8 update

Well an update, apparently the firmware update was purely coincidental. Woke up this morning and started using my ipad and the wifi wasn't working again...

Tturn Router off for 30 seconds then reboot also turn wifi off on iphone/pad

Changing the 5ghz channel to auto or another channel only worked temporarily. What has finally worked is turning off the 5ghz channel completely And running only on the 2.4ghz channel.

iiPad Mini Retina doesn't play nice with AC routers. Disconnect your -G connection and connect to the SSID without the -G. This worked for me. Hopefully next update will fix this problem.

I have both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz channels running now as my router allows me to name them differently. iPad Mini Retina is logged into 2.4 version, while all other devices are using 5Ghz. Working all day so far.

Cheers JD, tried the network resets and they worked for a bit, then stopped. Saw your post and switched to 2.4 and it's been working fine.

I just saw I can do this on my router too. If I give each one (2.4 & 5) their own passwords and only use the Mini with the 2.4, then..not sure how to word it right, but how do the other devices connect to both? I'm under the impression that by having both 2.4 and 5 on the same network/password that my devices pick which is better at the moment/location or whatever. By splitting them, won't I have to pick which devices go to which?

Sorry if that's a stupid question, but I've never really messed around with my router like that before.

I think the easiest way around it to ensure your iPad mini only has credentials for the 2.4 connection. I think.

That is assuming you have named both differently.

I have been on 2.4hz as well...but I noticed something yesterday which I havent read in here...when I was playing around trying to get 5ghz working, I noticed it seemed to work UNTIL I connected another device to it. So when I had my ipad ONLY on it then it seemed to work fine, but once my phone connected and I was using internet on the phone...it crapped out on the ipad. Can anyone else confirm this? Does this give us a clue as to what is causing the issue?

I have been using my iPad Air and my iPad Mini Retina on iOS 7.1 for long time. iOS 8 screwed the iPads... when connected to wifi for not more than 5 min... terribly slow... I have reset my devices, rebooted , forgot and re joined the wifi network.. iPhone 5s is good with same network...

Noticed the 2.4Ghz on my Airport Extreme 5th Gen is good compared to my 5Ghz .... They were both stuck on Channel 11 and Channel 153.. After moving the channel to Auto ... This fixed my slow wifi issue... Auto selection got my AEBS on channel 149... rebooted and noted this channel changes to 161... Both these changes did not impact wifi .. and am able to browse stream for 3 hours now...

Solution that worked for me.

Setup Airport Extreme to "Auto" for both 2.4Ghz and 5GHz........ Stop using strict channels on either...

iPad issues that i was seeing is fixed with ... Auto settings in Airport Extreme 5Gen base station.

it's been good all evening and all day today (a couple hours so far today). It seems pretty normal.

I did have a couple of dropouts last night that it recovered from by itself, but otherwise was good. So, even though going to Auti for 5 GHz virtually fixes the symptoms, I think (obviously) there is still an underlying prob with iOS 8 wifi on this band.

The simple answer is, at least for me, is that "fix" does seem to work well.

I have also wifi issues with my iphone 4s and ipad mini with normal display. I run speedtest and my download speed went down from 44 mbs to 0,4 mbs !!!

ALso problem with keyboard, when I want to type somethimg i have tp press the charactar 10 times before it appears

iin addition it drains my battery much faster

we need a fix soon because i cannot use internet !!!!
