reading this thread and others has led me to a solution. The problem appears to be ios 8 and 5ghz networks. I am connecting to my 2.4 network and i have had no issues. Clearly a big problem for Apple that they need to fix.

Update (also see my other posts in go to the discussion):

Just for "fun", I checked my 5GHz wireless setting (5th gen AEBS) and saw I had it set to a fixed channel, 153. Keep in mind, this worked fine for ages, and using iOS 7.1.2. Somewhere in the back of my head I remembered seeing someone who had some success with changing the setting to "Automatic". So, why not? Well, it worked! (For me anyway.) My iPad Airs are now (again) stable at or near 300mbps. The automatic setting chose channel 149, so I manually set it - that also worked. Back to 153 - no good. 161 sort of worked. Back to automatic and all seems ok.

I think my theory of the difference between iOS 8 and iOS 7.1.2, having to do with MIMO and 802.11n still holds. Something in how they are using multi-streams seems to be different.

I'm not sure I would consider switching the 5GHz channel selection to automatic is a "workaround", but it's borderline. If all was well with static channel (153, in my case) before the upgrade, I wouldn't expect it to change.

If setting the 5GHz band channel selection to automatic doesn't work, then there's still the option to use 2.4GHz. For right now, at least, I'm going to give it a go with the AEBS set to automatic. The Airs seem to work fine – now.

Keeper is a great app for logging WiFi keys and if you store the web address as well, you can go through the app and it will pre-fill the information for you.

I have switched to 2.4GHz WiFi as I struck the same problem after switching to 5GHz Auto, but it took some time to cause a problem.

Looks like 2.4GHz WiFi is the only solution until Apple sorts out the problem.

    Interesting, thanks for the feedback.

Well, I haven't put a lot of time on the iPad, yet, but will use it for many hours this evening. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Worst case, it's back to 2.4GHz.

I've opened a case with Apple. They asked me to reset my Network settings. I couldn't remember if i had done it previously or not, so it made sense to try it. I still think I'll see the issue again, but last time I fiddled with the settings it took a while for the issue to reappear. I will say that the iPad seems more responsive somehow. I'll keep you guys posted.

He's the solution. The problem is ios 8 doesn't play well with the WEP setting on your router. Switch from WEP to WAP2. This is only the solution for your house anywhere else that's using WEP you're out of luck until Apple comes out with a patch. Give it a shot if it works spread the word. I'm new to this site so I don't know how to get around in here well. Let others know. I know how frustrating this is.

WEP is not the 'answer.' My Airport Extreme doesn't even have WEP. And I have/had the problems.

Do you have any idea when Apple will stop signing 7.1.2 ?

I am making some tests but I would like to revert because I have too many issues streaming audio now.

I downgraded this afternoon to 7.1.2 and have yet to see Any of the iOS 8 Problems from the Mini Retina's wifi or airplay manifest. iOS 8 seems to be Beta or Not Well Tested! I use 2 Airport Extreme's, 1 5th Gen. and 1 4th Gen. in extended mode to span the distance of My house and have always had and continue to have great Wifi and Airplay support with iOS 6 and iOS 7 but iOS 8's performance issues and the fact that a few of My valued Apps fail to open or will not work under 8 is NOT COOL!

I gave up and dropped my iPhone 5 and Mini 2 back to iOS 7.1.2 and they both are working perfectly. My 6+ doesn't get here for another week so hopefully an update comes by then.

For Fun would someone run this browser benchmark test in iOS 8 and post Score, in iOS 7 Safari Scored a 1690. I would have but downgraded to 7 a few hours ago.

    2351 iPad Air, iOS 8

There were several tests that were skipped because of lacking codec or something else unsupported.

WoW and Thank You, that does seem to be SUBSTANTIALLY better than 1690 with Safari 7.0 / ipad mini retina on ios7. My 2011 2.0 Quad Core Macbook Pro Safari 5.1.10 OS 10.6.8 scored about 1815 so soo many questions...

I Was having the same problems with my iPad Air, after trying everything that has been recommended here I had no luck. there was a firmware update for my router and after updating it and resetting the network on my iPad it seems to have fixed the issue for me. I hope this helps!
