Updated ipad 3 to ios 8 at 3pm eastern. Logo has been on ever since. Tried pressing both buttons, after 10 seconds, logo fades to black and comes right back. Plugging into comp for itunes does nothing.

I apologize, I'm a bit unclear on the exact issue you are describing. If you are having issues completing the update of your iPad, and/or it will not go past an Apple screen, you may find the following articles helpful:
