black screen after repair

Hi all,
My MB faced the RSD like many others and it was repaired by apple like many others. After I got it back I have been getting black screens when I start up every now and then (not always but persistent) and eacj time I am having to reset my PRAM which I don't is a permanent solution.
I have tried to contact apple care over the phone but, it seems like they got a lot of calls pouring in already as I failed to talk to any representative after a week of trial.

Does anyone here ever had such problem? Or does anyone know a solution for this? (except for taking it to apple store thats my final destination)

Thanks Alot!

Hello.

I have the EXACT same issue. I had the RSD, I got my MacBook "replaced" and now I've been getting the grey/black screen every now and then on start-up. I called the technician that serviced my computer and he suggested resetting the PMU. I did so - still the same problem. I am planning on just going to the Apple Store and asking for a brand new computer. This is absolutely ridiculous.

Wow! freddiep, I am really sorry to hear your experience.

As for the problem I guess nobody here has any real answer except either reseting PMU or contacting apple. Actually I tried contacting apple but, I just could not get through after 20 mins of waiting each time I called.
This is really fraustrating 😟

resetting pmu didnt work...

i actually tried resetting PRAM and...it worked. rRan the smc firmware update for the newly replaced logic board to cool this hot puppy down. i'm going to back it up now again, before its too late and the problem returns. Who knows what will happen after i shut it down again.

i still have the inaudible speakers and the totally-scratched-from-the-repair bottom case. id try applecare, but theres no getting through to them these days.

it ***** feeling like you have a machine that you cant count on at all.

i simply can't believe how badly apple is mishandling this entire RSD problem. who the **** is steering the ship over there?????

Freddiep,

I'm going to the Apple Store next Friday (it's a 5 hour drive from where I live but I have to try) and asking for a full refund. I haven't decided if I'm going to ask for a brand new MacBook or just for my money back and to wait for the "rev. 2" of the MacBook. The problem is that I need a computer for school. I got this right before school started and then of course didn't have it for 2 weeks while it was being "repaired". Now I can't be without a computer for another who knows how long... Anyways, you mentioned something about a lawsuit and if they refuse to replace my computer with cash or a new one, I am very interested in looking into some kind of class action lawsuit. This is an absolute disgrace on Apple's part.

I had the same problem and found what seems to be a solution in another string in this discussion group. Once you've gotten the machine started by whatever means works, go the the control panel for the display, change the resolution to anything other than 1200x800 and then change it back. You only have to do this once. It worked for me. I have now had at least half-a-dozen starts after shutting down with no further need to reset the pRam. Don't know why it works, but it seems to have done the trick for me.

this situation is so ridiculous... that we have to sit here and try all these "home remedies" and help each other, because apple isn't doing their job.

Howbout this as potential fix? Lets try spinning in a circle for two minutes then throwing salt over our shoulder...

Cmon Apple, what is your problem... admit you sold a piece of garbage and m ake it right, before everything the company has stood for starts getting called into question.

Im in advertising, and anyone knows in my business that word of mouth - positive or negative - is the most powerful form. And everyone i know is talking about a.) what a piece of crap this computer turned out to be b.) how badly apple is handling the situation, and c.) what appears to be an overall majordecline in both apples product quality/reliability and their customer service

(and keep in mind that mine is one of the very few industries that are 90% apple computer based)

The Genius Bar employee suspected my Main Logic Board as the culprit for this problem. It was sent away a week ago. My problems first started with intermittent Bluetooth Not Available, then 20 minutes later, blank screen on start-up. I followed the support page recommendation & reset PRAM & PMU, which worked, but that was the only way to get it to work. Highly recommend any of you with blank screens on startup take them back for repair/replacement. Will follow-up with the repair report when I get my MacBook back.

Okay, so after my 3rd logic board replacement, this one with the heatsink that Apple is claiming is going to solve the RSD, I get my machine home and BAM a blank screen. I zap my PRAM and I'm good as gold. The next day, same issue; I get on the phone with Tech Support.

It turns out the blank screen is a function of the 10.4.7 upgrade, not related to RSD. The solution is to zap your PRAM, change your screen resolution (doesn't matter to what size), then change your resolution to where you had it (hopefully the native). Then go ahead and restart the machine.

I did this on Thursday, so far so good.

Hope this helps.

well guess what... two days after pram reset made the black screen go away, it happened again today... i can't believe this.

I'm trying the screen resolution reset... i just changed it to something else and then changed it back. hope thats what you meant.

if that doesn't fix it permanently, this machine is going back permanently and im demanding a replacement.
