iOS 8 alarm sounds not working

hi

before ios 8 I always left my phone on silent at night and my alarm would always wake me in the morning by playing a very slightly annoying ringtone. Since I've updated, it now doesn't make a noise at all on silent or if I turn my phone onto loud, it only vibrates. My ringer is at the maximum noise level but when I press the volume keys on the side of my phone, it shows the ringer with no volume at all.

Am I missing something? I don't want to have my phone on loud all night as this will drive me crazy

thanks

Same problem here. This morning I didn't wake up because my alarm didn't make any sound. I finally woke up (almost 2 hours late) when my SO called, and when I hung up I realized the alarm was going off, but not making any sound.

I did install an app called CARROT Alarm, which I turned on last night and set for 15 minutes before the regular alarm. However, I decided not to use it after all so I closed the app. I do not know if it could have interfered with my regular alarm. I do know the alarm symbol was still on in the top right corner on my phone, because I always check that before going to sleep (Also, it was the regular alarm that was going off silently this morning, not the CARROT Alarm app).

I also turned on "Hey Siri" last night, and played with the function before going to bed, by saying "Hey Siri, what time is it?" and "Hey Siri, what movies are playing?" and "Hey Siri, I'm going to sleep now." I don't know if turning on the "Hey Siri" function might have contributed to the alarm malfunction?

This is a major problem for me. I need to be able to trust my alarm to wake me up, and even if I test it out before bed, I don't know if I can trust my phone completely now.

I Faffed around for ages, I checked to see if the sounds were working at all (they were but only when on loud) and the only thing I did that I can see worked was went into settings, sounds and then moved the volume toggle up and down a bit. I then put my phone back onto silent and checked the alarm and it worked fine. Pressing the volume buttons now work since I moved that toggle up and down a little bit. Don't know why it worked but hopefully the same will happen for you

I updated my phone yesterday to iOS8 and this morning my alarm did not go off, though it was set to go off as usual. I found that if I set a new alarm everything worked fine, but the alarms that were set before (and remained from prior to the update) then those alarms did not work. So I deleted all of my alarms and set new ones.

If one were to go into the Alarm application and set an alarm, normal experience. Set an alarm for 06:00AM, the Alarm will go off, vibration & sound, regardless to whether the phone's silent switch is in the ON or OFF position.

Introduce iOS 8, whether using Siri or 'Hey Siri', to set the Alarm, Siri will set the alarm, however there is no vibration or sound when its time for the Alarm to go off! In result, NO ALARM!!! The screen does activate. This worked in iOS 7 (mind you, no 'hey Siri')

I've tried 'Hey Siri ... goodbye' to get the screen to power down after a few moments, thinking that it needed to be closed. Still no sound or vibration.

Interestingly, I observed that the time displayed on the home screen is frozen.

Anyone else seeing this???

I updated to 8.0 yesterday on my iPhone 5. Alarm set through clock app this morning worked just fine for 6:00AM. Just did some testing with "hey siri set alarm for 2:50pm" and the alarm set and ran. Volume set to full and sound and vibration on for both. Seems to work for me, as do all of the other things that people are saying are broken. I've not had any problems with 8.0 yet. Time to buy a lottery ticket.

I figured I should come back to update: missindependent's notes helped me out.

The alarm was not working until I moved the volume setting for the ringer (my ringer is set to NOT update when I press the volume buttons on my phone). Once I moved the volume setting, not only did test alarms work, but my original morning alarm also started working. I should not that I did also change the alarm tone for my regular morning alarm. But, I did not delete it and reset it.

It seems this problem specifically applies to people who had a recurring alarm set before they upgraded to iOS8, and made no changes to the alarm. The alarm still "goes off" but with no sound and no vibration.

I had the same, nightmarish issue the other morning before work. Finally, I've worked out what the problem was in my case:

Before updating to iOS 8 I had removed my music to make space, meaning that my tracks were only available if streamed. My alarms were previously set to play certain tracks in my music collection, which had been taken off and I'm pretty sure it didn't like it. The solution for me was to create new alarms with a default sound, such as 'Radar'. I'm sure that if I downloaded my tracks again and then selected them as the alarm sound it'd be okay again, but I've yet to try that out.

This just caused me to miss 2 classes this morning at school. When I woke up, my 5S was sitting there with the lock screen on as if the alarm was going off, but there was no vibration and no sound at all.

I essentially always have my phone with the mute switch on and vibrate on - I prefer that to having a ringer go off since it's always on me. The alarm has always worked in this kind of situation until this morning.

I don't know if this has anything to do with it but I set the alarm while I was listening to music last night with headphones connected before bed. I unplugged the headphones before going to sleep because I know the alarm will go through them if they're connected. I tried the same thing again this morning to test it and the alarm went off just fine.

I really think there's some kind of bug here in iOS 8 - this exact procedure has worked hundreds of times for me with iOS 7.

*SOLVED*

As mentioned, for those of you that upgraded, you need to reconfigure your alarms. Delete them and create new.

If you are a new iOS8 user (which I am now) or old iOS 7 that has upgraded to iOS8,, you must go into the Clock app and set 1 alarm. Make sure to select the desired sound, it is set to 'No Sound' by default. Once the sound has been changed, save the alarm.

Any further subsequent alarms that are setup either manually or via Siri will use the selected sound by default.

All is working now that I've established one alarm manually.

Not completely solved. I didn't have a problem with the alarm going off, but before you could hit the volume button on the side for snooze, now that doesn't work at all. And if you do tap the screen for snooze and then slide the screen out of lock mode the alarm completely goes off. Sometimes I just want to check the weather and go back to sleep for a couple snoozes...not anymore. I don't want to pick up my phone to have to make it snooze. There was NOTHING wrong with this app before and now it's STUPID!!!

I've had a similar issue, almost missed work last week. I was able to reset the alarm and it went off with sound this morning. However, in the past, I was able to use the volume buttons to hit snooze. When I did that this morning, the alarm snoozed but no longer made sound when it went off again. Thankfully I was semi awake by that time and randomly looked at my phone to see the screen showing the alarm going off but without sound. I'm hoping for a software fix soon...

NOT solved. I set my alarms last night - went into the Clock app, one for 6:15 and one for 6:30 - two different sounds - and, nothing. If it wasn't for me waking up randomly at 6:45, I would have been late for work (I literally thanked God as I got out of bed; being late is NOT good where I work). Anyway, I checked my phone - and alas, both alarms were set to "off" - seemingly had gone off, but nothing. My husband ALWAYS wakes up to my alarm even if I don't, and I asked him this morning if they went off, and he said no.

I am really frustrated as we both got the iPhone 6 last week and I am already having so many issues. Didn't have ANY of these with my 4S. 😟
