Photo/iPhoto crashes since iOS 8 (Migration issue)

I put iOS 8 on my iPad and hit "Migrate" to get iPhoto pics into Photo. It started, then stopped and crashed iPhoto.

I tried it many times, from Photo as well as iPhoto.

I've rebooted, deleted iPhoto, nothing works.

Even now iPhoto is gone, Photo opens, tries to "Migrate" and crashes.

First try a "Reset" of the iPad, see this link: reset your device http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430

If you are lucky, that will let Photos forget the migration.

If that does not fix it, reinstall iOS 8. It looks like the problem is with corrupted data still stored on your device or with the Photos.app, and you cannot reinstall Photos on its own.

  1. try restoring with iTunes:
    1. Connect the device to your computer and open iTunes.
    2. If the device appears in iTunes, select and click Restore on the Summary pane. Learn more about restoring iOS software.
    3. If the device doesn't appear in iTunes, try to force the device into recovery mode, and then restore it.
  2. If the above steps do not resolve the issue, contact Apple.

HI

Same issue (on iPad Air)

as suggested above but with one extra step

1. Go to settings > photos & camera

2. turn off "my photo stream" and "icloud photo sharing"

3. Open Photos app - it was still crashing

4. So opened iPhoto - this time there was a message about migrating

5. Open Photos app - no longer crashing

6. turn on "my photo stream" and "icloud photo sharing"

Seems to be okay now so the corruption was hopefully cleared
