Q: iPhone 5 iOS 8 Bluetooth issues with Audi A1

Apon upgrading to ios8 my iPhone connects to my cars bluetooth car kit(Audi A1 2012) but every time I place a call from my car the call drops from my car and i am only able to speak on my phone. Sometimes as my phone connects to the bluetooth kit my car dials the last number in my call log but in fact its not calling at all it just says it is on my cars display...

Please if anyone is having the same issue or knows what to do

    Same problem.

I tried with an iPhone 5S with a Qashqai and it worked. Then I tried with an iPhone 5 and the display shows a non existent incoming call.

Same problem here. iPhone4S with Mitsubishi Outlander Multimedia system. Worked perfectly with IOS 7. When making a call wit IOS 8, the bluetooth connection seems to be active, but when the connection with the other caller is made, the iPhone switches to iPhone as the audio source. When I choose bluetooth manually it works. But every call I miss the first couple of seconds and it is dangerous because I have to look at my iPhone to switch the audio source in stead of looking at the traffic around me.

Hi, Can you confirm whether you have successfully initiated a call from the Qashqai? In my case I found that my iPhone 5S had connected to the Qashqai, but when I attempted to make a call, I found I couldn't and bizarrely the next time the Bluetooth connection is established it automatically tries initiating the call you previously failed to make. Thanks.

After having the same problem with my 2013 Chevy Equinox, I did a factory reset of my iPhone 5s and re-installed IOS 8 from scratch.

I used my iTunes backup to restore my apps, contacts, photo ..etc

Since I did that, I was able to connect my phone via bluetooth to my Chevy Equinox, make phone calls, listen to music ..etc

So far so good. I made about 10 calls, stopped the car, restarted the car and reconnected the phone and it worked.

I wonder if the upgrade from IOS 7 to IOS 8 is not working properly and causing problems with Bluetooth. It seems that a full install after a factory reset fixed my problem.

Hopefully, it is the end of the nightmare. Good luck.

I have a 2014 Mini Cooper Countryman and am experiencing the same issue. I use tune 2 air to connect for music and with iOS 7 the car recognized that input as an "ipod". Since iOS 8, the radio briefly recognizes the "ipod" then drops the connection as soon as I start playing a song. After that it will only recognize the phone as a generic aux input.  I haven't tested whether phone calls still work-not a priority for me.

I have re-paired both bluetooth connections (car and tune2air). I haven't plugged the phone in directly yet, but even if that works for music it's not an optimal solution.  The comments here lead me to think it might not work anyway.

Had the exact same problem in my Mini Cooper S.

Here is how I solved it. Hope it will work for you as well.

Resetting the network settings on the iPhone under Settings > General > Reset Network Settings. This will remove all previous settings that may cause confusion when the car and the iPhone make a handshake. Please keep in mind that you will have to enter the password for any WiFi connection you will be using as these are removed as well.

Removing the Bluetooth connection on both ends and creating new connection between car system and iPhone.

Again, worked for me. Hope it helps.

I have a 2014 Escape with no issues (almost feel guilty!).  I didn't even think of it until I started reading these posts.  I have still been able to make calls hands free and did not give it a thought until i got in my car yesterday after work and called my husband on the way home.   Maybe reconnecting with the blue tooth in the car would help?  Not really sure but its a thought.

2009 Ford Falcon BF3 with factory bluetooth kit.

    Yesterday: iPhone 5s + IOS 7.1.2 = working fine

    Today: iPhone 5s + IOS 8 = not working

Rather typical of Apple really, fix one thing and break another every **** update.  Same happens on Mac OS too...

Same issue here with Audi A6 C7 (2012). iPhone 5S with iOS 7 worked perfectly with the car. With IOS 8, the phone syncs contacts, last calls, etc.. I can even initiate the call from the car menu, however, as soon the recipient enters the call, there is no audio and the car changes into the mode where no call is active at all. The phone itself stays in the call. In the phones speaker menu the car is still the primary speaker but there is no sound and the counterpart can't hear me either (no wonder, in the perspective of the car, the call is no longer active ...).

Apple, please fix it, because you broke it ;-)

Same issue here with the Hyundai i20 Bluetooth system.

Display shows phone connected via Bluetooth, speakers work fine, microphone works fine, Siri is heard over the speakers and can be used to voice activate outgoing calls plus other Siri commands.

Music can be played via Bluetooth aswell, appears as MP3 play, so the connection is live and the display reflects the media source.

If I switch Bluetooth off on the iphone then the display says no connection, if I try to dial a number.

So again the connection to the vehicle isn't a problem.

However once connected if I press the Green dial or voice activated commands on the main console of the car, nothing happens if somebody calls then I can't answer as the console commands are inactive.

If I use Siri to call a number, which does work for outgoing, then the active callre display shows the last number the car received, which is incorrect as the active call is initiated via the iPhon, regardless of the number in use.

Please note other manufacturers phones work normally when connected to the Bluetooth system so all indication is it's the iOS8 update which has caused the issue as iOS 7 worked perfectl.

Same for me. i Use a Navi 600 from a Vauxhall Astra J series, and the problems are as follows:-

    1) call drops but Bluetooth remains connected

    2) Cancelling the call or redialing either brings up mute (because Bluetooth still connected) or re dials then drops again.

both these observations, and others read point to an iOS 8 software bug that affects Bluetooth call connections, in particular the inability to retain a connection on voice but still allows pairing. This would explain why calls drop and seem disengaged yet upon retry show that Bluetooth still locked on previous call.

There is no way that apple won't be looking to fix a fundamental bug like this, as it affects so many people and businesses out there. My problem is not knowing when this fix will take place? Leave it too late and you have mass amounts of people trying to revert back to iOS 7 in droves.
