Sep 19, 2014 2:30 AM in response to killhippieby LeeS7237,thank you for replying killhippie,
I have tried the soft reboot and am still having the same issues.'I'd prefer not to re-install, because that shouldn't have to be the case after installing the software,, but if Apple provides no solution, then I may have to.

Sep 19, 2014 3:41 AM in response to LeeS7237by azsharom,My top battery usage is 'Messages (background activity)', or words to that effect at 25%... makes me wonder if under iOS8 there isn't some sort of re-indexing with the cloud that's taking place which is causing excessive activity...
If I can think back to my earlier new iOS experiences, I think it did feel like it took a 'day or two to settle down' - so, hopefully over the weekend I/we'll see things going back to normal.
Or else... let's hope for a quick iOS 8.01 release!

Sep 19, 2014 6:37 AM in response to azsharomby LeeS7237,Really? Messages?
Messages is pretty low on my list?Fancy sharing your list? or at least the top 3?
Maybe they did, well that's because when iOS 7 came out iOS 7.0.1 came out the day after followed by iOS 7.0.2 a week (7 days later). So I'm hoping iOS 8.0.1 and possibly 8.0.2 will come out within the next week.
It's just worrying at the moment.
I also did some research and it looks like there was battery usage issues in the beta tests including the final GM version of which is what the public release was based on.
So let's just hope Apple will sort something soon.

If you used an over the air update to iOS8 a restore is exactly what you should do
It will install a full fresh installation of iOS8 rather than a "patch"

Sep 19, 2014 8:25 AM in response to wegrasby LeeS7237,Thanks for replying Peter, but what about those who installed iOS 8 via iTunes?

Sep 19, 2014 8:54 AM in response to LeeS7237by killhippie,★HelpfulA lot can go wrong with an install, especially an OTA one. iTunes will pull down the full version, sometimes no matter what it can go wrong as there are a lot of system files to replace. Its always best to have no apps running in the background, have the device plugged in as well. I'm not sure its an Apple specific issues, this crops up a lot when a new OS comes along. It sounds like a runaway process, and maybe caused by a corrupt install. Next step is to try a clean install. Since not everyone's phone has this issue its more likely to be a corrupt install. If your phone behaves after a clean install then don't restore it from a backup and start from fresh.

Sep 19, 2014 8:57 AM in response to killhippieby LeeS7237,Okay killhippie,
I will do this now followed by a report back here; if the others here could do the same and give feedback, that would be great.

Sep 19, 2014 9:04 AM in response to LeeS7237by wegras,I can only assume you are not a Windows user then, anything can go wrong with MS Windows and usually does
iOS can have the same issues
I updated 5 x iOS devices to iOS 8 all over the air and all faultless ,to my surprise

Sep 19, 2014 9:14 AM in response to wegrasby LeeS7237,I am, that might explain it then.
I'm waiting on a call from my partner, but after that I will try installing again
Thank you both for being so helpful.
Others that I know are still having the issues even though the did it over air (WiFi); that's why I chose the iTunes install option.

Sep 19, 2014 11:54 AM in response to Giuseppe Schirruby LeeS7237,HandOff has been off since the install, I turned it off immediately.
Also, just to update everyone else, i have restored my iPhone and am still having the same issues...
looks like we/I may just have to wait for Apple.

Sep 19, 2014 11:15 PM in response to raymond73by Pablo Poch,Same issue. Fast battery drain, and hot iPhone. Some process is using the CPU a lot after updating to iOS 8. Battery usage shows Mail and lock screen as the most used battery, with 34% and 16% respectively. Even having the mail app not running. Apple iOS 8 should give a fast solution to this issue in a short time. It is really eating battery abnormally.

Sep 19, 2014 11:24 PM in response to LeeS7237by Avneesh Mishra,Did you try resetting your device ??? Just press the home and power button as long as the screen goes off, then again boot up... This may fix the problem
