Sep 21, 2014 7:09 PM in response to azsharomby Sonnto,I am trying to re-calibrate my battery metre by draining it, I will update everyone on here
Also, the thing with the low/no notification sound, I (for now) fixed it by turning my phone on and off (not a soft reset, but I held the lock button, then swiped to power off then I powered back on)
I am not sure the difference between soft reset and power-on-off, but to me, the difference I know is that a soft reset will render the battery display (the one that displays usage/standby time) to N/A or "---" while a power-on-off (what I did), will not disrupt the count. That's the only difference I've noticed.
Anyway, as far as my notification problem goes, that is my fix. Whether it lasts is unknown!

Sep 21, 2014 7:56 PM in response to LeeS7237by Jmich04,I was having the same exact issue! I let my battery drain multiple times. This last time I watched it go from 43% to 8% in about 15 minutes. At 8% everything froze up and wouldn't even let me shut it down. I did a soft reboot, and now it's not turning back on at all. This is absolutely ridiculous!

Sep 21, 2014 8:29 PM in response to Sonntoby Pablo Poch,I have the same issues as described by many users in this post.
I made me a question: What parts of an iPhone uses most of battery available in any normal use? (I mean when the operation of the device is normal, which is not the case after the upgrade to iOS 8)
my first answer would be: CPU, Wi-Fi, GPS, 3G data transmission, not necessarily in this order from higher to slower usage of battery)
I then run the app "Lirum Info Lite", which can show the CPU usage for both cores of the iPhone 5S, as well as a lot of data about your iDevice. So far, after monitoring the % of CPU usage sinde yesterday, I have seen a strange behavior of both cores. Having the iPhone with no app running (only Lirum) for some time I found it runs at about 55-60%, then slows down to 5-15%. On one observation a saw a strange pattern: one core going 100% and the other showed "nan" (zero data), meanwhile the battery suffered a noticeable decline after some minutes. I then turned off iphone, then on again. After this the CPU run almost normal for a time, then I found moments where while one core went runing higher the other core went the opposite way slowing down, when normally both run at similar paces. For a period of a couple of hours it seemed to slowed down to 3-5%. Today the pattern of two levels of core usage stays similar, adding another behavior where one core goes at 0%, while the other goes at 8-16%, then the usage shifts from one to the other for some seconds then goes back.
My tests were made with location services off and wi-if only for data connection.
After the upgrade the iPhone got hot and battery drained fast. But today the CPU usage seems to get more normal, it doesn't get hot and the cycles of 50-60% of CPU usage are shorter. The statistic of battery use shows for the last 4 days 21% for Mail and Home/Lock screen with 15%.
I am a bit of confused about how iOS 8 manages those cores in iPhone 5S. My wife's 5C isn't showing the above behavior or battery drain after I updated it to iOS 8, nor do my iPad 2 Retina (from which I typed this post) and iPad Mini. So the problem seem to be iPhone 5S specific.
Anyway one normal user shouldn't be making these kind of tests to find a possible clue to solve the unsolvable. Because this is Apple iOS's team responsibility to deliver an upgrade free of this obvious problems as has been seen since customers downloaded the upgrade and saw their iPhones 5S get hot and eat battery totally abnormal.
I don't believe any trick brained in this community will solve the bug. So better expect for and iOS update soon.
Meanwhile, have a power adapter handy in case your battery goes too low tocharge your iPhone 5S.
One last question, Are the new iPhone 6 and 6 Plus with iOS 8 experiencing the same problem?

Sep 22, 2014 5:26 AM in response to Pablo Pochby LeeS7237,Thank you to Emmaglet, Sonnto, Azsharom, Jmitch04, Pablo Poch, Pbeaudet and Tonyochs for your replies and input.
Emmaglet, your phone cannot hold 100% charge? care to elaborate?
As I haven't encountered this issue.Sonnto, thanks for coming back again and sharing your story, what is happening with me is pretty much exactly the same as you; I have also followed all procedures for "fixing" my phone battery without luck.
As for your comment on the Home & Lock Screen being the most usage, mine is exactly the same, showing ridiculously high levels on usage, I haven't had issues with Facebook however, but now I am also not choosing to use it.
Also your comment on your notification tone, I have not come across that.Azsharom, I agree with your statement about bugs, it seems a few of us have tried the methods recommended without luck, bring on iOS 8.0.1.
It is very lucky hat you didn't upgrade your wife's phone.Jmitch04, I haven't experienced my phone freezing or not turning back on after a sift reset, did you get a chance to see what might have been causing the battery drain?
I would recommend taking your phone to and Apple Genius Bar if you haven't already, if you can't get it back on at all.Pablo Poch, well done on your research, I have not seen a normal user go into this much detail and i completely agree that we shouldn't have to, but what you have found may actually be the cause of all our problems; the fact that one of the cores is being used more that the other or completely on it's own is extremely abnormal, the point of our phones have dual cores is to spilt the requirements to come from two sources therefore meaning the phone more efficient and able to withstand more usage from apps and background software.
Looking at it from a computer perspective, I can see this being a huge problem, it's like removing a core from a computer motherboard, running on a single core would limit the abilities of the computer greatly.
I also agree that we will all be waiting on iOS 8.0.1 and hoping it will fix the issues you have have found with the internals of the phone; and as for the iPhone 6 and 6 plus, i have seen online that some users are having the same users as people like us with older handsets.Pbeaudet, I think we are all hoping Apple will bring out iOS 8.0.1 soon and it will fix all our issues.
Tonyochs, Any particular reason you have mentioned the Galaxy Not 4?
Again thank you all for replying feel free to come back with any other issues and potential improvements, but unfortunately it looks like we're all going to be waiting for iOS 8.0.1, keep your chargers handy, if you can.

Sep 22, 2014 7:35 AM in response to Kawaby LeeS7237,Thank you Kawa and Crucifixianboss for replying.
Kawa, you have a problem with "phone noise cancellation", could you elaborate?
I haven't had this problem and mine still has the ability to turn on and off.Crucifixianboss, only 2 hours?
The lowest amount of time mine has lasted was 3 hours usage time on the first day after install; would you be happy to share your activities on your phone (% usages etc) with us all, if so, please do. -
Sep 22, 2014 8:14 AM in response to LeeS7237by Kawa,I accidently went into "setting" and I saw "phone noise cancelling" doesn't work. I soft reset it, but nothing. Still not turning on or off. Its color faded. It means it doesn't active.

Sep 22, 2014 8:20 AM in response to Kawaby Kawa,I fixed it. I don't know how "hearing aids" turned on. It deactivated the "phone noise cancellation". I turned "hearing aid mode" off and it fixed the problem.

Sep 22, 2014 8:59 AM in response to Crucifixianbossby LeeS7237,Thank you Kawa and Crucixianboss for replying again.
Kawa, well done for finding a solution.
Crucifixianboss, some users have mentioned the Facebook app, I personally haven't had any issues with Facebook, however I don't use it that much; you mentioned about the temperature of your phone in your previous post, how hot does your phone get?
Carlosfromtegucigalpa, thank you for replying, although I do not speak Spanish, with the help of Google Translate, I have a rough idea of what you are saying; you seem to be having the same problems as all of us here, with the heat of your phone and battery discharge, could you share with us what is the highest usage in your settings?

Sep 22, 2014 9:09 AM in response to LeeS7237by fbara,While I believe it has been mentioned in this thread, I've found that doing a soft reset (holding down the power button + home button until the iphone shuts down, then releasing the home button but keeping the power button held down until the Apple logo appears, then letting go of the power button) has helped me the most. I used Lirum Info Lite, thanks to a previous poster on that, and was running at 90% combined CPU for hours prior to the soft reset. After that I was down 5-8%.
I've also turned off Handoff and Suggested Apps (without Yosemite, there's no need to have Handoff turned on).
I'm still monitoring how long this will last until the CPU goes back up.
