How can you turn off continuity in iOS8?

As much as I like the idea, I would like to turn Continuity off. When I receive a call on my iPhone (5s), my iPad (Air) also rings which interrupts what ever I am doing on it (even if I do not want to answer the call).

I have disabled (on both devices) Hand Off and all Suggested Apps.

Can anyone help please?

Hi there,i have an iPHONE 5S, and im trying to turn off the CONTINUITY, unfortunately on my device where is the setting for FACETIME is not such button / switch to shot off this feature. But i found in SETTINGS > GENERAL > HANDOFF & SUGGESTED APPS > HANDOFF...the switch. Now, by switching off this one will turn off CONTINUITY? Please explain. Thank you in advance for your time.

Thanks for the tip. This was starting to annoy folks in our household when every device started ringing. FWIW-I love the idea Apple's got rolling with continuity, but the settings need to be more granular. I've submitted an enhancement request for Apple to allow per-device continuity settings. For example, forward to my iPad and iMac, but not the laptop used by the kids.

Here is what i found and helped me

  1. Launch the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad running iOS 8.
  2. Tap on General.
  3. Tap on Handoff & Suggested Apps.
  4. Turn the Handoff option Off and then back On again.
  5. Tap General at the top to return to the previous menu.
  6. Tap Settings at the top to return to the previous menu.
  7. Tap on FaceTime.
  8. Turn the iPhone Cellular Calls option Off and then back On again.
  9. Reboot your iPhone or iPad.
  10. Repeat this process with every device you'd like to use.
  11. Try placing a test call to see if the issue is resolved.

This solution did not work for me. The only way to stop all phones from ringing at once is to turn off iPhone Cellular Calls under FaceTime on the phone receiving the calls. I suspect this will also break the link so calls to the other phone will also not ring through to this phone but I only tried it in the one direction. This is not the solution I would prefer but if I can't stop this crap, my wife will start cutting off appendages. This is bad but that would be worse. I would prefer to be able to identify devices individually and authorize the Continuity link but deselecting the other phone number appears to do nothing.

The other solution would be separate Apple IDs.

Connect your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Mac using Continuity - Apple Support

This Apple Support page gives full details on how to turn on and off the various bits of continuity independently, including Hand Off, cell phone calls and SMS.

The Messages app on the iPhone allows you to configure which devices will receive forwarded SMS.

However for iPhone cellular calls you have to go on to the device you want to disable the feature on. For Macs, to switch off receiving of cell phone calls you have to open the FaceTime app on the Mac and uncheck the "iPhone Cellular Calls" in Preferences.

A little inconsistent but the Apple Support page covers it nice and clearly.
