delete button stopped working on macbook air

Yesterday my delete button stopped working on my macbook air. It does not work for email, search, any type of writing. I have reviewed the other discussions on this subject and they do not tell you how to fix it. I have taken the steps to pull up the keyboard viewer and the delete "button" works on the viewer, but not on my keyboard. Any suggestions?
