An early 2007 iMac doesn't support Mavericks regardless of how much RAM it has; the cutoff date is August 7, 2007. If your iMac is one of those, yes.

oh i see my mac was purchased in January 2007 so the guy that told me to buy more RAM was wrong then. He works for Apple genius too . It is a shame that my mac is now redundant in regards to the latest updates is there absolutely nothing that could work as i`m not in a position to want to purchase a up to date mac
You don't need to buy a brand new Mac to run Mavericks, but you do need to get one which is newer than yours. Click here for a list of the earliest compatible ones.

Check that your computer is compatible with Mountain Lion/Mavericks.
To check the model number hold down the option/alt key, go to the Apple menu and select System Information.
iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) model number 7,1 or higher
