Q: siri not working after ios 8 update

Hiya. I've just updated to IOS 8 and found Siri can't hear me.

I've tested other apps and made calls and the microphone works. Done reset all settings and tunred siri on and off plus tried hard reset and nothing.

Any help here please?

After many months without Siri or dictation on my IPhone 5, the os 8.3 update fixed these and my speakerphone problem.  So much for the "hardware " excuse that Apple was giving.  Just glad to have  Siri functions back, as well as Dictation!

Thank you so much for your post. Doing the same thing fixed my phone.

It's weird but works, isn't it?
My Siri and Dictation work fine so far.
And I'd like to take it as H/W issue rather than S/W issue when my friends ask me about this issue.
    Anyway, congratulation for your iPhone.

Thanks.  Some lag time for Siri to be ready, but it can hear me now!!!

Same issue here. the mic icon doesn't work, Siri doesn't work. Bluetooth or not, on or off, reset etc. doesn't work. It's clearly a software conflict. Worked FINE for a year before the update.

I Had same problem after latest iOS 8 updat, was driving me mad. I'd tried hard reset & all other suggestions. In end I just turned Siri Off, then did hard reset I.e hold home & power button down at same time until phone switches off. Then when I turned phone back on it was working. Might of been a fluke, but thought I'd share in case it helps anyone else

PS My FaceTime also was not working (the app was completely missing). I tried many things list on here as well..

    Here is what worked:

    Goto settings-> general->reset all settings

then go back to general (now siri is there) -> siri->turn on siri

If you were missing FaceTime too it should be back.

And you have to rejoin you wifi network or you will be burning date.

no tapping and spinning. It is very frustrating though!! Good Luck

Mine is the same, last few months extremely frustrating. SIRI will only tell me she seems to have lost the internet connection. If I ask her to resolve a name like CALL FRANK, ... I am sorry but I seem to have lost my internet connection.... if I ask her to dial 701-555-1212 she will (most of the time). I have to do a hard reboot then it will work once. If I wanted to reboot my device every few hours or once a day I would have bought a MS based device. Now I am at the end of my run with Apple. Time to go elsewhere because if I cant do voice commands, then hands-free is useless and touching your phone in the vehicle is against the law here and they have huge fines that cost you every year for 5 years.

I had the same problem with my iPhone 5. Siri couldn't hear, FaceTime had no mic volume, front facing video had low to no audio and static and many other things that didn't work with the mic. I went to the Notes app I used the dictation through the keyboard, to my surprise it started to work. Then I tested everything else and it all worked, Siri, FaceTime, messages dictation. For some reason the Notes App dictation reset everything properly. I don't know if this will work for anyone else but it worked on my phone. I hope it works on others.

    1. open Notes

    2. open keyboard

    3. click on the dictation microphone

    4. speak to see if it takes dictation

    5. if it does test siri and other things that were broken

Been have the same issues. Voice control works fine with Siri off line. But when I have Siri online, Siri does not hear me. I've tried everything possible. I've been getting quite irritated with this issue! What else must I do? Must I buy a new apple product that'll just fail me again?!

I'm experiencing this too. No solution. Brand new iPhone less than two weeks old. Overnight Siri stops working. Called AppleCare who tried to convince me to pay £30 UPS and stump up the cost of full iPhone incase I didn't send it back. Told them this was unacceptable and wound up talking to a senior support technician. I've tried everything they suggested + everything on here minus taking the front off and cleaning the mic.

I've logged feedback and I'll be calling them back to get a replacement. I'm still in warranty, so they can insist on policy all they like, they're sending me a new one.

I've had replacement Apple Products ship out for free several times before.

My mate had two faulty iphone 6s, one had terrible back-lighting issues and another had a faulty camera.

Might seem like I'm angry here. I'm really not, just disappointed. My last phone was the 4 with that dreadful loss of signal issue and really I haven't had much success with Apple ever since I started using them about ten years ago. Actually my original ipod was great. Foxconn are really bad. One last go and maybe it's time to jump ship and buy myself a Korean manufactured phone for half the price that does everything that Apple are getting around to doing in their next OS.

EVERYONE HAVING THE PROBLEM - hold down the home button for Siri and as it is listening thump the bottom of your phone with your hand (like you are giving it a spanking, lol), just a few light slaps should do it. The idea is that Siri needs to hear a loud noise to recalibrate it's interaction with the mic (so screaming "F U APPLE!" would work to if you need to vent some frustration hehe). This is an intermittent software problem caused by iOS 8 version of Siri screwing up the calibration on the phone so you might have to do it once in a while. Apple will not acknowledge problems like this, only fix it with an update when they feel it effects enough people.
