Apple Configurator 1.6 won't load iBooks

Had tons of trouble last year, installing iOS7 on 25 supervised iPads. The problems continue with the iOS8 update. I updated AC to version 1.6 through the app store and went to plug in to my iPad cart today. I should note that all my iPads are iPad 2. I was under the impression that they would be left out of the update. Regardless, AC installs and updates everything except for iBooks. I get an error when trying to push the app to my iPads. Anyone else?

iPads are a huge part of classrooms these days. Would be nice if Apple paid AC a little more attention to ensure that it is working properly the day after a major update like this.

I've had this issue too, when my ipads connected to AC 1.6, it automatically updated them to iOS8, but now they all have the error regarding iBooks (a system application with the given bundle identifier is already installed on the device and cannot be replaced) but my problem is that AC didn't then apply my final profile which stops my students from adding/deleting apps etc so I've had to go into them one by one and apply restrictions. I also tried removing the iBook app manually off the iPad, but wasn't able to do so as no cross appears on this app to enable me to delete it. Any one with any suggestions?

Problem solved...kinda.

Out of curiousity, after the numerous error messages stating that I couldn't load iBooks, I decided to pull an iPad out and have a look. I noticed that iBooks was loaded. I didn't realize this, and it wasn't in any release notes that I read, but I guess iBooks is now pre-installed with iOS8? Anyways, it wasn't letting me load iBooks because it was already there.

Have a look.

You're right, iBooks is installed, but as Barwell Academy noted, if you're using ACU to install profiles then your installation will fail because of this issue and any profiles will not make it on to the iPads. We have several hundred iPads so applying restrictions one by one won't work for us. incidentally, I had this problem happen before I downloaded ACU 1.6 or IOS8, so not sure if it's related.

This worked for me. After trying different settings I just removed iBooks from my list of apps in Apple Configurator, don't just uncheck it, actually remove it from your list of apps using the minus key. Then I refreshed and it finished the installation without errors. This does not actually remove iBooks as apparently its now part of the IOS and cannot be removed.

Actually had a conversation with an Apple representative and he said that Configurator 1.6 is "a mess." Currently it erases and then loads all of your checked apps every time an iPad is plugged into your cart. I use iMovie and Pages constantly, so when an iPad gets plugged in it's automatically out of commission for an hour or more. No update in sight according to the rep.

Keep in mind that iBooks comes pre-installed on iOS8 so that's why you might be getting some error messages.

I have 5 apps that I am trying to deploy to 37 iPads using Apple Configurator 1.6. I also updated all apps and now that I try to refresh my iPad cart, I get the error message "Unable to install iMovie." When I open the Error Details window, it shows “The device OS version is too low.” If I uncheck the iMovie app, I can get the new apps installed and old apps updated, but I lose iMovie. How do I get around this as I am not ready to upgrade to iOS8?

Tell me about it. In the AppStore, Apple actually list this is a bug fix/feature "Apple Configurator 1.6 contains improvements and bug fixes including: 1) Devices are erased before restoring a backup."

I can see why some people may want this, but it throws a complete spanner in the works for us and I can't believe there's not an option for this in preferences. We have 10 iPads that were locked down and restored after each use. Turn around time of about five minutes or less. Now Configurator forces us to reinstall everything each time, we're looking at over an hour. It's crazy. It would actually be quicker to go through the iPads myself and reset everything. Ugh.

However, having deleted the iBooks app from Configurator, at least the devices are finishing without the error, so there's that, I guess.

Go to iTunes, in your library. Bring up your list of apps. There is a button at the top that says "Update." Click on it and you'll see all of the apps that have updates available. Click "Update All." Once all your apps are updated, you will have to import the updated version in Apple Configurator by deleting it from your list and re-adding it.
