Q: cannot search messages after upgrading to iOS8!!!

After upgrading my iPhone5S to iOS8 yesterday, I noticed that it cannot search Messages for information. To be exact, it only searches messages that have been sent/received after the upgrade. It seems it hasn't cached older messages and keeps ignoring them when searching for something. Any help? Is it a bug?

After trying the Language "solution" about 20 times, with every different version of it.....nothing worked. Then I went in to the keyboard, turned of Emoji and Spanish (I never turned Spanish on to my knowledge, so I am guessing that it added to my keyboards when I switched language. Search works like a charm in both the "Messages" search bar and the "Spotlight Search"

Settings> General> Keyboard> Keyboards> English> QWERTY (I already had on QWERTY and never actually went to it, but just letting you know what mine is set on)

    This is such a pain.

Do we have to report this as a bug somehow if we want to know that apple are investigating or can we trust someone reports bugs based on thread feedback from this forum?

I think that if more of us report it then there is a greater chance that Apple will address it.

I've gone ahead and reported it here.

Funnily enough that feedback page has a bug itself! The submit button doesn't appear in Chrome on OSX, I had to use safari to report the bug iOS bug and then submit a separate bug report for the buggy bug report page *rolleyes*

we need to fill as much as possible this bug report in order for Apple to take this bug into account...

I hope a lot they will. It seems for me that searching crashes after every next synchronization vs iTunes. W\o synchronization iPhone does search in the last messages (not all but only among those last that where sent/received after last synchronization vs i Tunes). Does anybody find out the same?

I can only search my most recent messages, but no more than the last 7 or 8.

I Tried all the solutions posted. The change language one works for about 24 hrs for me. Each time I do it, I am excited, then mid-afternoon the next day, I am bs m to having the problem again. This is really affecting my business performance because I keep in touch with clients by searching for their texts.

Having the same problem with iPhone 6.  It is extremely annoying considering how much I use search in messages!

One thing that I found is interesting is that it's a problem on my iPhone six and my wife's iPhone 6+ but is not a problem on our iPads.

I have an iPhone 5S with iOS 8.0.2 and I tried the suggestion of changing languages and changing back to English. I also unchecked messages from the spotlight search menu and then checked it back on. One of these did the trick and fixed my search function inside of my text messages app. Thanks!

The fix worked for about a week and a half. Today I lost ability to search in message app and spotlight.  So its definitely no a permanent fix.

Looks like our complaints reached the right people. iOS 8.1 is supposed to resolve this issue. See below:

      • Messages includes new features, improvements and fixes
        • Adds the ability for iPhone users to send and receive SMS and MMS text messages from their iPad and Mac
        • Resolves an issue where search would sometimes not display results
        • Fixes a bug that caused read messages to not be marked as read
        • Fixes issues with group messaging

Yeah!!!! I'm downloading it now. Let's keep our fingers crossed that it works.
