I'm not absolutely certain what you're looking for, but maybe this (seems to work with iTunes 7 as well): http://www.indyjt.com/software/?show=ieatbrainz#ieatbrainz

Or search http://www.versiontracker.com/macosx/

When you rip CDs, it should download metadata/track info from GraceNote's web-site, http://www.gracenote.com/music/, which you can search yourself, although I find that musicbrainz.org is usually more accurate.

Berlin, thanks for the info:
I have lots of mp3 with missing track/ album info. I did not rip the music from my CDs so iTunes can't help me fill it in.
I am looking for a Mac program that can recognize the artist and song, and then fill n the album/year/etc for me (so then I can use iTunes to get album art, etc)
It will take me forever to do it by hand searching the web, etc.

I don't know if Doug's applescripts have a program for this...I guess music brainz is the closets I am looking for. Have you used it? Does it work? Thanks

Gina,

Yeah, actually, iEatBrainz does work quite often, although you'll get some false matches - ranging from totally wrong to the right song but the wrong album (as some tracks appear on multiple albums), but you can manually hint some of those or leave them for manual tagging. It shows you it's results before you commit them to iTunes. It matches by "musical fingerprint" so it doesn't matter what's missing and as a minimum it'll fill in the track, track number, artist and album and often year.

It's free, so worth giving a go.

MusicBrainz.org is the internet face on the DB that iEatBrainz uses, so worth a visit for those tracks that just will not be matched.

I believe there are apps out there that assist with tagging - including, probably, on Doug's site - but I haven't tried them.
