There are still a lot of people downloading iOS 8 so the servers are busy.  Do it through iTunes...mine was downloaded and installed in less then 45 minutes.

Servers are swamped. Wait a couple of days for things to cool down.

Depends on the speed of your internet connection as well as how many people are trying to download the update at the same time.

It's still appallingly and unacceptably slow today. Tried it direct, and via iTunes.

You might want to check your internet connection. My broadband at 30Mb/s did it in 10 minutes yesterday, and that was probably with plenty of new phone activations going on.

Once you start the download and install, you just wait until your device prompts you that the update is ready.

True mine took about 6 hrs before I saw this message, I 'thought' that nothing was happening before that.

Was able to download after several tries, by way of iTunes. Apple cd have saved us a lot of aggravation had they taken the pain to thoroughly check their products before releasing them. Been with this company since 1984 and I liked it better when they were the new underdog on the block. They were listening to the rest of us then and we, silly as we were, went evangelizing for "them"... Guess they are too fat now to give a hoot. Used to love A. then, now it's love-hate, how long will it take before it's ony hate?... Maybe they'll be a bit more humble now that it seems Ali Baba has taken away their bragging rights about being the most capitalized co. In the world. Are you listening Apple?

Actually I've tried three connections, using three ISPs on two continents at speeds ranging from 20Mbs to 80Mbs  and it always all said the same thing. Currently it's at 35 hours to download and it'll fail in an hour or so.  It's remarkably consistent if somewhat disappointing .
