On The Music Path APP problem

After upgrading to iOS8, this delightful music app has become a Zombie! It is neither alive nor dead, in that it cannot be downloaded, nor can it be deleted. I have tried backing up 'without apps' and restoring--didn't work--and deleting the app from iTunes--didn't work either. Of course I first tried the 'wiggle delete' on my iPad.

Now there is the Zombie: it has no name, but retains the ghost image of the 'onthepath' app. Other than a complete wipe and reinstall, any ideas?

Why do we put up with this garbage treatment from Apple or any other developer. We would never accept this kind of treatment from Microsux yet it’s perfectly alright for Apple and developers to rob us blind. I had two lessons and was hoping on restoring them on my new iPad. Should have known better. I’ve had it with these thieves!

I still have the app on two ipad but all content is gone and won't restore as I understand the developer has gone out of business.

I think it is a disgrace that Apple appear to have 'washed their hands' with this problem (see Is the "on the music path" iPad app discontinued, and if yes, is there anyway to restore my purchases? ).

I am unlikely to ever buy content from within an app again after this treatment.

Actually, the above link does not appear to work as it's from the US community but a quick google of the problem will find the page in question.

silent abandoning was a great reference. If this was a cd copy, we wouldn't have this problem. We rely on apple whether intermediary or not, to support us. Don't know about you but I do not want my money back, rather, I want my content back. I travel on the road with my guitar and this was my only respite. No other program even compares. Vote of no confidence apple regardless of the legal script. This wasn't a 99 cent song we lost nor is this a way to keep my market share. When there are other options, I'll gladly be taking them. If any of you guys figure out a way to share, please let me know. I still have the app showing purchased orders but unable to download and will support anything we can do to remedy this from occurring again. Happy Holidays. Joe

I Have this backed up on iTunes on my pc laptop. Can the content be restored from there? The problem seems that the library needs periodic 'updating' , perhaps to verify that the user has paid for the content. Great. Now we don't own anything. I have this installed on my old original iPad one and my iPad air 2 which I traded my iPad 3 in on.

Class action, anyone?

THe content I'm concerned about are the individual lessons, which have gone missing. John Kennan posted a link to another discussion and I thought that had been discussed here. Sorry if I confused you. when I try to open the app it says I need to update the library, then gives an error message that it can't find it. so in the linked discussion, we no longer have our lessons. this app does indeed need to periodically 'update it's library'. It even has a button to do it in the tools menu and is discussed in it's minimal help menu.

and I wasn't seriously suggesting a lawsuit, but we have bought something and it has been taken away from us.

Okay, the app library,. not the iTunes library.

That make sense.

and it would have been taken away by the app developer, not Apple.

Apple cannot continue to sell it if the app developer doesn't want them to,

The content can be stored on either Apple servers or developers servers.

-> https://developer.apple.com/library/ios/documentation/NetworkingInternet/Concept ual/StoreKitGuide/Chapters/DeliverProduc…

"In iOS 6 and later, most apps should use Apple-hosted content for downloaded files. You create an Apple-hosted content bundle using the In-App Purchase Content target in Xcode and submit it to iTunes Connect. When you host content on Apple’s servers you don’t need to provide any servers—your app’s content is stored by Apple using the same infrastructure that supports other large-scale operations, such as the App Store. Additionally, Apple-hosted content automatically downloads in the background even if your app isn’t running.

You might choose to host your own content if you already have server infrastructure, if you need to support older versions of iOS, or if you share your server infrastructure across multiple platforms"
