I deleted photos from my iPhone but still see them in Image Capture app

I am running iOS 8 and I have a problem with my photo library. I deleted all the photos form my phone, and went into "recently deleted" and made sure I permanently deleted them, however when I plug my phone into my Mac and look in image capture, I still see over 400 photos in there. Does anybody know if there's any way to figure out where these photos reside on my iPhone? They aren't viewable through the photos app and seem to be taking up space but are not usable.

I currently have all iCloud photo related functions turned off.

Hello J-a-x,

It sounds like you are seeing photos in Image Capture that you have removed from the Photos app by deleting them from the Recently Deleted album. It seems to me that the Photos app is going to be the linchpin here so thats where I would troubleshoot. Start by closing all the apps that are running on the phone:

iOS: Force an app to close

Double-click the Home button.

Swipe left or right until you have located the app you wish to close.

Swipe the app up to close it.

When you have done that restart the iPhone:

iOS: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting

Then see if the photos are showing anywhere in the Photos app. If so delete them once more, in the same way you had before, also removing them from Recently Deleted and see if Image Capture is detecting them or not.

I'm having a similar problem

How can the Instagram app find / can see photos, that have been deleted and arent showing on the native photos app??

Can't figure it out!

Thanks Sterling R but that did not help. The photos never showed up int he photos app, and were already removed from Deleted Items so they only showed in image capture.

I bought a new iPhone, set it up as anew phone, and reset my old iPhone. That was the only way I found to fix this.

Ah thank you for the update.

The next steps I would have recommended would have been to backup and restore the phone with iTunes, first as a new device and testing the issue, then restoring the backup and verifying it still worked correctly, and I am certain that would have fixed it as well.

Either way, I am glad to know the issue is now resolved!
