Q: No cellular since upgrading iPad 2 to iOS 8

I am unable to connect using cellular data since updating my iPad 2 with iOS 8.  I've tried resetting my iPad and resetting the network connections but that has not helped.  Any advice would be appreciate.  Thank you

Settings>iCloud.  My new iCloud Drive had not installed so I installed it from there.  It took a long time.  Then I bakced up to iCloud Drive.  Next Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings...or somehting similar to that.  (I apparently can't go to the settings to verify that and keep my text in this reply...another stupid Apple trick.) Then I remeber that there was an option to then reset, backing up from the iCloud.  All of my apps returned after the backup but passwords were nt saved for them.  I've had no issues since, except for some slight sluggishnesss on some apps when they start.

My ipad 2 64 gb "running" on ios 8.02 drrops the cellular signal once a day when I am not looking. while it was working I switch airplane mode on a off a few times and it still worked. So I left it switched on airplane mode but when I switched it back on next day it said no service! so we can rule out signal strength as the problem.

    HI All,

    What is going on?

Why were we not told that IOS8 was no good for the iPad2?

My one runs very slow in Safari and I have to keep rebooting to get the 3G connection to work.

I am new to this forum, does Apple look at these posts?

    Thanks.

Here's hoping Apple reads these posts.  I'd really like to see them allow me to go back to the last iOS 7 version.  my ipad ran really well unlike the hassle it's now become.

I followed this approach to the letter - it was in fact the one recommended by the Apple tech I spoke with last week. Trouble is, as any of you who have tried this, it does not work. The cellular service restored after a reboot does not hold. Apple has really soiled their nappies on this - hope they clean up the mess soon.

I have to restart the iPad repeatedly throuout the day.  It keeps dropping the cell signal as soon as it goes to sleep.  Apple, please, allow us iPad 2 owners to go back to iOS 7.  This update just wasn't thought through enough for the iPad 2.  iOS 8 has crippled my ipad and I need it to do my job.  It is now hindering me as much as helping.  A fix is required and soon, as in right freaking now!

I Can't believe apple has been so mum on this. They need to do something. This is so frustrating. I'm ready to throw my iPad 2 out the window

    Hey Everybody,

If you want to increase the odds that Apple will take notice of this thread, I suguest that you "like" posts that agree with your point of view.

As someone who participated in this thread days ago, and who bit the bullet relatively early and downgraded back to 7.1.2, I was dismayed to discover that Apple has apparently now revoked the "signing" on the 7.1.2 OS. I was in the invidious situation of having done the iOS 8 upgrade imprudently, without a backup and had to very painfully "reconstruct" my iPad 2 - re-copy apps, transcribe photos, settings etc, but it was better than the unreliable cellular behaviour, and appalling performance I was experiencing under iOS 8.

What I find really sad is that Apple has now closed this escape route for those brave enough to even do that! As people have noted, this total lack of recognition of the problems faced by significant group of iPad 2 users really surprises me. Are we making enough noise, or are there simply so many other problems with iOS 8 that this pales into insignificance?

At the root of the problem I think is that Apple almost certainly made a poor decision to even include the iPad 2 in the compatibility list for iOS 8 - I think it is simply too underpowered to exploit this new OS adequately, but perhaps I'll be proved wrong over time.

I mostly agree with you except downgrading seems a bit over reacting. I'm putting up with the forced restarts several times daily until a fix comes along which I'm fairly sure will.

In any event as I said in another post, readers of these posts should strongly consider liking the ones they like to get Apple's attention.

I  agree. Apple made  a mistake including the iPad2 in this update. I was surprised that they kept it on sale for so long as a "current" device. Now they are stuck with their decision and it will take some magic to keep the iPad2 functioning with ios8. I like the option of using third party keyboards however, I would not have missed it if they left us alone and did not raise our expectations with ios8. I guess that we will have to wait for 8.0.? for a fix to take. I wonder whether 8.0.2 was a complete fix for all the other devices affected by the"upgrade"?

    Hi Robert,

Yes possibly, however I guess the one thing that concerns me, and maybe I just don't have the capacity to view it - someone did post a link to be able to post an Apple Bug Report - but it required you to have an Apple Developer Account from memory - I have no visibility of where this issue rates on the spectrum of issues that Apple are addressing at the moment.

For example, I find it hard to fathom that Apple would remove the signing validation on the 7.1.2 version of the OS for iPad 2 devices while such issues existed on the iOS 8 variants for iPad 2 users, if significant awareness of the issue existed at Apple. I understand that downgrading is not an Apple supported action, but if Support teams were genuinely on top of the widespread issues end users were experiencing with iOS 8, would they really shut off that route according to some pre-planned decommissioning schedule?

    Regards,

    Trevor

Apple included the iPad2 in the compatibility list because the iPad2 can handle iOS8.  Once I realized that my cellular account was corrupt, I have regained, and still have cellular service since resetting my cellular account (as noted in an earlier post).  My service has not dropped or stopped working at any given time.  Although, I now know that many of you cannot reset that account.

It takes a minute for the iPad2 to work the kinks out of an iOS update, but it will work them out.  The corruption is within the cellular account.  My iPad2 is now running like a champ!  It balked at first like yours, but then it settled down.  I have a love/hate relationship with updates.  I love them when they work and hate them when they don't.  The process is still the same.

    Hi AmeliaiPad2,

I think you may be mistaken in generalising your experience to everyone's experience. Is that based on a sample size of 1?

Here in Australia, I operate an unlocked iPad 2 - not tied to any Telco - so no cellular account at all - just plug in a SIM - it follows the carrier of the SIM - that's it - no account configuration whatsoever. No account to get corrupted. So I'm pleased that your situation appears to have been resolved,  but for myself, and many others in this thread it's pretty clear that both the original variant of iOS 8, and the subsequent releases did, and continue to cause problems.

I'd be cautious in declaring success too early in your upgrade. I originally thought I'd solved problems by changing my carrier detection from "automatic" to "manual". 24 hours later, my service began dropping out again, every time the iPad locked, so after 3 days I bit the bullet and am back on 7.1.2. I can tell you I sound happier than a lot of people in this thread.

Wow, did you even read my entire post "Although, I now know that many of you cannot reset that account".  I'm not bragging, I have been doing this for over 17 years, I stand by my post.  Also, you just solved your own problem.  Get a new SIM.  That thing is a little corrupt computer.
