Q: No cellular since upgrading iPad 2 to iOS 8

I am unable to connect using cellular data since updating my iPad 2 with iOS 8.  I've tried resetting my iPad and resetting the network connections but that has not helped.  Any advice would be appreciate.  Thank you

Have to agree, apart from a few glitches, mine is now running well on 8.0.2. Plugging the iPad into your computer and allowing a backup to occur automatically on iTunes, then clicking on the iCloud tab in Settings and making sure you are logged into the new iCloud service. I finally had one further loss of network the other day, but opening the iCloud tab restored it instantly.

    Hi AmeliaiPad2,

I did read your Post, and I interpreted it as saying that if someone just resets their cellular account all would be well running iOS 8. I now see your qualification, which I did overlook. My mistake.

But even so, I'm not sure that the evidence of other's experiences in this form support the contention that Cellular reset will resolve this issue

I actually don't understand the end of your post "Also you just solved your own problem. Get a new SIM. That thing is a little corrupt computer." Please explain.

My SIM is working perfectly well, now I've returned to the earlier iOS, there is nothing corrupt about it all.

    Regards,

    Trevor

I tried that part about opening the iCloud tab and it worked for me too. I'm running 8.02.  so the connection lasts longer bug it's still a pain. Thanks for the tip!

I reset my cellular (ATT)  account and it made no difference whatsoever.  I still lose my connection repeatedly.  The way around this is to go to settings> general> ICloud.  Once I click on ICloud my "no service" turns to "searching" then resumes the ATT connection albeit only for an hour or two.  I missed my window to roll back to IOS 7.2 unfortunately.  I had a recent back up too which would have made it easier but alas, I chickened out and ended up not having a choice.  I will say this, though after updating to 8.0.2 I see no difference.  My programs still lag, start slow, Safari drags and even Words With Friends drags...the graphics stall out.  I'm still very frustrated that here we all are struggling to work around an issue that I feel Apple should address.  Was this intentional to render our iPad 2's obsolete?   I start to wonder...replacing my Ipad?  Not sure at this point, I am hoping Apple addresses these issues with another update.  I feel like I was  duped into trusting the nag screen to update my Ipad...now I have an tablet that is troublesome.  Meanwhile I truly hope Apple is paying attention here...don't let the Ipad 2 owners floudner...

I'm interested to hear that people are still reporting the same sluggish performance which along with the cellular issues - clearly the key reason this thread originally started - was the other key factor that pushed me to downgrade, an option no longer available. Like you, as stated before I'm not convinced the iOS code base is suitable for the iPad 2. I didn't say compatible, I said suitable. I'm sure the majority of you have watched the iPhone 6 keynote. Take a look at the graph about chip performance. I think that the iOS 8 code base of course will work on the iPad 2 but look at where the A5 processor in the iPad 2 ranks compared with the A8 processor of the iPhone 6. I suspect our dear old A5 processor is executing a lot of additional code just to determine things that the less capable hardware in our now ageing iPad 2s can't execute. Once again its like trying to run Windows 8.1 on a Pentium 4, but the problem is with the closed environment is we can't go back now

I am seeing similar issues. Although I do get connectivity on 3G it drops after awhile and I have to do a reset to get it back.

I have also noticed poor response from the touch screen as well as very erratic operation of Safari and a general slowdown in responses from some apps.

I kick myself for upgrading to IOS 8. should have waited 6 months instead of a week. Come on Apple get your S%$T together.

The one thing that has worked thus far is switching off the automatic selection of the carrier. Once I performed a hard reboot and the Carrier selection returned to the Settings menu, I turned off the Automatic selection and manually chose the carrier. It has held for several days so far. It's worth a try.

I reported this issue to bugreport.apple.com on September 23 -- bug report #18425536.

They responded today (October 1) asking me to reproduce on iOS8!!  Of course, my original bug report was against iOS8, and it is still a problem in iOS8.0.2.  This tells me that either they are over-whelmed with bug reports, or this iPad2 issue is very low on the priority list.  I would encourage others to file bug reports and see if we can get more attention on this.

    Good news...

got a call from an Apple Tech that arranged to put a monitoring app on my iPad to determine why it is dropping the cellular service.  They will take a look at the report tomorrow and hopefully determine the cause.

anyone else on this thread get a call?

Did you call Apple or contact them otherwise or was the call out of the blue?

IT was totally out of the blue.  Got an email last night saying they tired my home number but could not reach me.  So i replied with my cellular number and a time and things just happened.  cross your fingers.

Hey Thanks for the tip. I have tried that, so I'll see how long it lasts. I think the previous poster is right. The processor in the iPad 2 is too sluggish for this new iOS. Even when I hit the home button the display is jerky as it goes back to the home screen from any App. I just wish APPLE would let us revert back to iOS 7 things would be so much easier.
