Oct 12, 2014 6:06 PM in response to adriennefromwashingtonby Jim.fromwildwood,I Have the same issue with my iPad2. I first downloaded ios8.01, then 8.02. Had the "No Service" problem along with Safari slowness and terrible battery life. Went to the Apple Store, where a technician installed a "clean" copy of ios8.02. The battery and slowness issues were resolved right away, but the "No Service", meaning no cellular service, problem remains. The only thing that fixes it is to restart the iPad. This happens about 3 times every 2 days. Does not seem to impact wireless performance. However, it's really annoying. Does anyone know when or if Apple will be able to distribute a fix?

Oct 12, 2014 6:20 PM in response to Jim.fromwildwoodby Star Traveler,What happens when you reset it to the factory fresh setup and do not reload your data (from your back). I'm wondering because if you have your iPad set up just as it comes off the factory floor, and there is none of your data on there ... and ... it still does that with the cellular service, then you might have to have Apple check the hardware.
When you have it in that factory fresh condition, when you go in and show it to Apple, you can tell them that it's clean and fresh like when it was new, and see what they find at that point.

Re: IPAD2 very slow after IOS 8 upgradein response to pacoKASSOLVED: IOS 8 Issues on iPad 2:
I just returned home from a visit to the Genius Bar. Like you and many others, when I upgraded my iPad 2 to IOS 8, it became practically unusable. It was VERY slow, lagged whenever trying to to do anything. Lots of screen freezes and apps spontaneously crashing. I was convinced that the processor on the iPad 2 just couldn't handle the new IOS and I went in to see about restoring to IOS 7.
Thankfully, I was hooked up with a very sharp guy at the bar. The problem is not with the OS, it is with it being an *upgraded* OS. He used the analogy of when you had an older Windows computer and how over time (and over upgrades), they just tended to get slower and slower because of all of the garbage that was carried forward in the upgrades. At those times (and if you've ever had a Windows computer, you get this), the only thing that would speed it up would be to wipe the machine and do a fresh install of the current OS and then reload your apps, and the viola, everything would be fast again. Well, it turns out that IOS can suffer the same problems.
THE FIX: FIRST, be sure you have a current iCloud backup of your device. Connect your iPad to a computer that has a clean fresh copy of IOS 8 on iTunes (this is best done with a computer other than the one that you sync your device to because you DO NOT want to restore it from a back up just yet). Ideally, if you do this at an Apple store you'll be assured of the right version there and someone to answer any questions you might have along the way. You then hold the power and home button down to hard-reset the device and continue to hold them down until it reboots into recovery mode. You then follow the instructions on the computer to reinstall the OS on the device (which wipes everything from it and then reinstalls a clean copy of it). Once this is done (which only takes about 15 minutes), your device will reboot and ask you to set it up. Answer the questions about language, location, etc. and continue until it asks you to log into your iTunes account. Once you do that, it will ask if you want to either 1) Set it up as a new device, 2) Restore from iCloud, or 3) Restore from iTunes. Choose (2), restore from iCloud. This will ensure that it brings down "clean" copies of all of your apps and preferences rather than the potentially corrupted ones that might reside in your iTunes backup. That's it! It will take a few hours depending on how much data and apps you have, but I am happy to report that my iPad 2 is now running IOS 8 and it's running as fast as it ever did when it was brand new!
To sum it up, this process 1) Wipes your device and the garbage causing your problems, 2) Loads a clean and bug-free version of IOS 8 to your device, and 3) restores your apps and data so that it looks just like it did before the wipe, with the exception that it works now! :-)
Note also that by following this process you don't have to go through the painful and laborious process of reloading all of your apps, data and/or settings. iCloud takes care of all of that for you.

Oct 12, 2014 11:46 PM in response to jayeburneyby Star Traveler,At that point, I would take it down to the Apple Store and show them the machine set up in factory default condition, without any restoral of your backup, so that you're showing Apple a perfectly clean machine. If they see that with a factory fresh machine and nothing of yours on it, they might just replace it for you, as I've already heard reported from several other users today!

Oct 13, 2014 12:31 AM in response to Star Travelerby Solentandgosport,So all we have to do is take it to an Apple Store and they will sort it out by doing a reinstall. you are forgetting the complex route of getting to see a genius and then hoping that he recommends this course of action. If this is the solution Apple should set up a dedicated clinic in each of their shops in order to carry out this work

Oct 13, 2014 1:16 AM in response to Solentandgosportby Solentandgosport,Further to my previous email. I am sure Apple are working on the problem and already have a solution but they will wait until 8.1 is rolled out. Anytime else would be embarrassing ifor Apple releases to release a 8.03 for just iPad users that would probably cause problems for the all the other Apple devices, My gripe is I have tried 8.03 and can use the cloud dat work around but I would prefer to go back to the operating system which worked perfectly ok on my ageing iPad 2. If I want to upto date my tablet I will look at those on offer and their is a small chance I may buy Apple but it is a very small chance.

Oct 13, 2014 6:46 AM in response to Solentandgosportby Star Traveler,It's not complex to see a Genius at the Genius Bar. I've done it several times without any delays or problems. You simply set up the time you want to be there and see them, on the appointment page for that, and show up at that time. They'll be ready to see you at exactly that time and you're "in" ... just that quick. I usually get there few minutes ahead, but one time I got there exactly at my appointment time. I didn't wait but just one minute, spent about 15 minutes with him and was out the door right after that. I wasn't in the store more than 20 minutes!

I'Ve already seen several here report that their iPad was replaced when they couldn't fix the problem. I think the key is to have it in the factory default condition and none of your data on it. Then you're presenting them with a machine that is "factory fresh" and brand new, and it is supposed to operate fine at that level.

Oct 13, 2014 6:51 AM in response to bhewettby Star Traveler,Fantastic, I'm glad it's working! And just a few minutes ago I had to reset the network settings because things were "hanging" on this forum, but not other websites. I haven't done that since iOS 7. But sometimes "things happen" regardless of what version of iOS you have ...:-) ...

Oct 13, 2014 9:43 AM in response to Star Travelerby bhewett,Well 22 hours later and the infamous "No Service" is back....
-
Oct 13, 2014 11:22 AM in response to bhewettby Star Traveler,Sorry to hear that. It may take an escalation up to Apple Support "in person" to show them the problem firsthand. I would have it set to factory default without any of your data on it, and then show them in person. Others have been reporting here that Apple has replaced their device when they saw that it was not working properly. That was probably a hardware failure, because Apple wouldn't replace something for software issues ... only hardware issues. You see ... when there is a hardware issue, the software will not work right, no matter what you do.
Therefore, set it up and head on down to Apple.

Oct 14, 2014 4:39 AM in response to Star Travelerby Tuv,Has this fix continued to work for you? I am away from my desktop but plan to do this asap....

Oct 14, 2014 7:29 AM in response to Tuvby Star Traveler,I have to relate to you that it has worked for others, because my installation of iOS 8.0 and then 8.0.2 went okay. I didn't have a slowdown. I did have a few glitches, though ... mainly with Safari, since I use it a lot. But other things worked okay. I found that with Safari, it would hang at various times (and mainly in this forum, but maybe that's because I'm here in this forum a lot ... :-) ...). But, anyway, I found with the Safari hangs (and I'm talking about completely loading a page here on this forum, and stopping part way through and just hanging, but, it loaded other pages, in other tabs, even while "this page" was hanging) -- what I did was reset the Network settings. I've probably done that about five or six times since I've gotten iOS 8.0.2
Others have had slowdowns, in overall performance when installing iOS 8 ... and I do believe that it probably has to do with an accumulation of garbage and corrupt files over a couple of years of use without clearing it out. It doesn't clear out by itself. That's why a periodic resetting back to factory default (at least once a year) is a good idea for everyone.
SO ... others have had good luck, but then again, I've gotten reports that others still have had problems. And in this I'll tell you that people have reported that "apps" themselves can cause problems. One particular person reported that Apple ran some special diagnostic software of those and found one particular app on his machine that was a problem. They told him to get rid of it, and it solved all his problems. Apple said that the developer had not updated it to iOS 8 and it was causing problems and interacting with the system so as to cause the problem.
Now, in the past, Apple had most of these apps "sandboxed" ... but now we're seeing that the apps are able to "get out of their sandbox" because of the special things Apple has added to iOS 8. Now, I'm guessing that if an app is problematic and doesn't upgrade for iOS 8, because of the new interaction that Apple has built into the system, it's going to mean that "APPS" themselvs can cause problems! Anyway, that's my take on it, and the example from that other person means that an app of yours could be the problem. But, it would take Apple to run their diagnostic software for you to know. You could know another way, yourself, but it would be extremely tedious for you to do it. You could add each app back in ... one by one ... from the factory default setup ... and then test the machine to see if the problems returned. When you hit the problem app, the machine would slowdown and your problems would return. That would let you know what app it is. I would rather go to Apple and have them check it ... :-) ...
Well, that's pretty much all I know for now.
