Oct 21, 2014 9:18 AM in response to adriennefromwashingtonby bhewett,23:15 hours of uninterrupted 3G service, slowness, stickyness and stuttering animation have disappeared as well. I think Apple has finally fixed this issue. Those of you who reverted back to 7, if you're brave, give it a try.

Oct 21, 2014 6:46 PM in response to adriennefromwashingtonby Gary Cox1,Oddly enough my iPad 2 hasn't lost service in days and I didn't upgrade to IOS 8.1! I wonder if it was some problem AT&T worked out?

Oct 22, 2014 4:34 PM in response to adriennefromwashingtonby blaise99,I am having similar issue since the IOS 8 upgrade. Rebooting the device is a temporary fix. I resorted to restoring the iPad as a new device and re-adding several apps at a time. While this dramatically improved the overall speed of the device, it did not fix the cellular dropping problem. This will require a fix from Apple.

Oct 22, 2014 5:23 PM in response to blaise99by Okbart,When I updated to iOS 8, I, like others here, experienced intermittent cellular and poor performance on my iPad 2. One of the steps I took was contacting ATT and making certain that everything was good on their end. All was fine on that front. (My iPhone, BTW, updated and has worked great without any loss of cellular.) I took the suggestion passed on by Star Traveler, took my iPad to the Apple store, had them put a fresh, clean iOS 8 on my iPad, and that solved the performance problems, but I continued to have intermittent cellular, even tho getting it back became easier (for me, just touching the iCloud tab in Settings would prompt a search and restoration of cellular--for a while). I updated to 8.1 on Monday. Cellular is restored and has not dropped at all. It appears that 8.1 fixed the cellular issue for me. There is an occasional slowness in accessing web pages, but nothing horrible, so performance for me is pretty much unchanged. That's been my experience and I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Oct 24, 2014 2:29 PM in response to dougster1by Herbitual,Funny how the hand-wringing seems to have dried up.
It's just a shame that after 15 pages of bed-wetting that a few more couldn't come back to this thread to say all is now fine.
Which it is.

BEsides, anyone who dares mention these "fixes" do not, in fact, fix the problem and it still exists have their comments deleted.

Oct 24, 2014 4:09 PM in response to bhewettby jdstryxlyndia,I am one of the few who successfully downgraded to 7.2 after trying 8.0. After reading the replies from people who got their ipad2 working properly with 8.1, I decided to try it. FATAL MISTAKE. The cellular service never came back. After 2-3 hours on the phone with apple and an hour in the local apple store I realized I was not going to get cellular service again.

Oct 24, 2014 4:22 PM in response to Herbitualby bhewett,I Thought I gave plenty of commentary and reasonable troubleshooting, and when the issues at hand (no cellular service and extreme lag in operation) were mitigated by the issuance of 8.1, I gave Apple their due. I Think handwringing is a charge to far when Apple claims the update WILL work with older devices, and that proves to be false. Follow that up with paying your carrier for a month of service that you could not use because of Apple, and I think we all have ample reason to complain.

You sure got that right ... LOL ...
But for those who are actually interested in fixing things instead of having a "gripe-fest" ... here are some instructions for doing your backup (and do iTunes if you can), plus how to get a clean system install, and get rid of all your corrupted system files on your device! Use your iTunes program to do a reset to factory default, and you'll get things set back to new again! And always make sure to do your backups!

You sure got that right ... LOL ... there's nothing like a continuing "gripe-fest" after there's already been a solution!
But for those who really do want some instructions on how to update "cleanly" to iOS 8.1 ... do the following with your iTunes program -- reset your iOS device to its factory default condition and get rid of all those corrupted system files! Always be sure to do your backups, too!
